The United States is running out of time to get its budget and trade deficits under control. Despite the urgency of the situation, 2010 has been wasted in hype about a non-existent recovery. As recently as August 2 Treasury Secretary Timothy F Geithner penned a New York Times Column, "Welcome to the Recovery". As John Williams ( shadowstats.com ) has made clear on many occasions, an appearance of recovery was created by over-counting employment and undercounting inflation. Warnings by Williams, Gerald Celente, and myself have gone unheeded, but our warnings recently had echos from Boston University professor Laurence ... market research, surveys and trends

So, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and Shaun Donovan of Housing and Urban Development held court with a dozen pre-selected panelists. Not much really new came out of this confab except for the call by one to nationalize the industry and another to let the divine being sort things out (sort of). Well, both are unrealistic. Public Private Partnerships, Public Transportation and Jobs for LA
With the financial markets gyrating and Tim Geithner talking again about the need for more economic stimulus, I'm finding it hard not to holler, "It's about investing in public transportation and other needed infrastructure stupid!" Why is it taking Treasury and much of the rest of Washington so long to see the elegance of LA's 30/10 Initiative ? This, after all, is a largely local taxpayer paid for means of accelerating construction on 12 critically needed public transportation projects. Even the late to the table LA Times now appears to have embraced it, enlisting Harold Meyerson to write an op ed ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
