Local government officials’ trepidation about cloud computing could be easing, as evidenced by a survey of IT decision-makers released Tuesday, April 20, that found 45 percent of local governments are using some form of cloud computing for applications or services. Is it the case that for some (many ?) organisations, that because of the 'one size fits all' nature of hosted services, that an organisation is forced to adapt its business processes to the predefined business process(es) in the cloud, and that as a result, any previous customisation of, say ERP systems, are effectively undone ? Does this then introduce a secondary business change or transformation programme, the cost of which perhaps is not as tangible as the user seat licence vs. enterprise software licence savings ?
