Even on a typical uber quiet pre-payrolls day, the on going tug-of-war between strong economic data in the US and European sovereign banking risks was clearly visible with the former triumphing by a short head giving the S&P 500 Index its first back-to-back gains since April. Microsoft and Cisco led advances in the Dow and Dell rose 4.9% helping lead technology shares to the biggest gain in the S&P 500, after its founder said he has considered taking the company private. The losers were basic resource / mining stocks like Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold which sank after saying China’s plans to crimp growth will hurt demand ...

Alcatel-Lucent reports 4th quarter net profit but revenue ...
PARIS — Telecommunications equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent SA on Thursday reported a small net profit for the fourth quarter as one-off gains helped offset a 20 percent drop in revenue. Paris-based Alcatel-Lucent made a net profit of euro46 million ($63 million) in the fourth quarter, compared to a euro3.9 billion net loss a year earlier, when earnings were hammered by charges to write down assets due to what it called "the drastic deterioration of the global economic outlook." In a statement, Alcatel-Lucent said the economic environment "appears to be stabilizing" and that it expects its markets to recover in ... market research, surveys and trends

As an A's fan, I'm used to the team being underestimated before the start of the baseball season, and the team surprising all the doubters with a tremendous run. Last year, the team was compared to the lowly Kansas City Royals, and widely anticipated to finish in last place in the American League West. Instead, despite a rash of injuries to key players, the A's youngsters far outperformed expectations and the team finished with an 88-74 record, good enough for second place in the division, and at one point in August, owned the division's best mark. Now, only a few days away from Opening Day against the ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Google Earnings Top $5.37 Billion in Revenue Q2 2008 @SEWatch
Google revenues topped $5.37 billion for the quarter ended June 30, 2008, an increase of 39 percent compared to the second quarter of 2007. That's also an increase of 3 percent compared to the first quarter of 2008. But those numbers still disappointed investors who basked in the glow of Google's growth and perhaps lingered a little too long in the sun. The big news? Weakness in key sectors such as real estate, where paid search has proven resilient in the face of the recession. As SEW readers know, Auto finance average CPC was down in June ; as was the total Finance category. Google reports its revenues, consistent ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Study Shows Google Tracker on 88% of Web Domains
What is striking in the Berkeley students report is that in a sample of nearly 400,000 Web domains, Googles presence remained high, at 88 percent, Right now what Google is doing with all that information is probably not a big deal but I see in the future something very bad could be done with it. is a testimony to the widespread popularity of Googles services like Analytics, DoubleClick and AdSense... "I dont know that anyone has identified the scope and depth of the coverage that Google has across the Web in terms of tracking," Mr. Soltani said. "Our data shows that even if you are not going to Google, if you are ...
A question for Christians like Al-Scusi? - Yahoo! Answers
If you use the computers and trust the science behind it at the same time, reject similar logic as explanation for things like the big bang theory (yes scusi, it is a theory. You can google that if you want.), you are doing this "support only the scientific products that help you and reject other ones (evidence or no). When you said --So please 'Observe and determine a logical approach.' before you try to engage in intelligent debate again.-- I believe you tried to make yourself seem as if you had a logical approach but ...
