has decreased in recent years the time it spends auditing the returns of the nation’s largest corporations, according to a new study. And in 2009, the government audited just one in four of the largest corporations, lower than any rate in more than 20 years, according to the analysis, released Sunday by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse , a nonpartisan research group affiliated with Syracuse University . Researchers said the audit data and other memos, which had both been obtained from the government under the Freedom of Information Act, suggested that a “perverse quota system” within the I.R.S. ...

Regional Community Development News – July 12, 2010 [regions_work]
"Think local planet, act regionally" is a paradigm that balances: "Think globally, act locally." More and more, it takes a region, a "community of communities" to solve problems experienced locally. This blog is an exploration of emerging “regional communities” and the “regional intelligence” that brings them together. "Community precedes cooperation." This is my thesis. It comes from over 35 years of working for regional cooperation. Communities routinely manage competition. - Tom Christoffel ... market research, surveys and trends
Gold World News Flash
"The Central Bank of Russia has been one of the biggest purchasers of gold in 2010, having bought gold every single month. It would be embarrassing if it were discovered that not only is the bank diluting the gold content with oxidizable materials, but subsequently passing it off for .999-proof precious metal. And if this is happening in Russia, one wonder what trickery other central banks, with a far lower amount of gold in their vaults, resort to." Now that it seems to be in a journalistic mode again, maybe Reuters should ask the Bank for International Settlements if its recent gold swaps have anything to do with ... market research, surveys and trends

GENEVA — Swiss insurer Zurich Financial Services Group reported a 76 percent jump in first-quarter net profit Thursday despite paying out more for natural disasters during the period.
