The International Trust Company Building was the original home office of the renowned Old Colony Trust Company division of the Bank of Boston, reflecting both the growth of banking and finance in the late 19th century Boston, as well as the growth of the downtown financial district. The company was founded in 1879 and grew to become one of the largest trust companies in New England in the early 20th century.
