The Rewards of Frugality and Thrift (or, Why We Scrimp and Save)
All saved money is ultimately spent. Money serves no purpose unless it is spent. So spending is the point. To be anti-spending makes no sense to me. I save because I love spending! The problem (in my view!) is that we can get caught up in habits of spending ineffectively. What you want to do is to optimize the Fun Units you obtain from each dollar of spending. Sometimes that means spending right away, other times it mean putting it off for a bit. My view is that discussions of sacrifice just confuse things. I never saved a dollar because I wanted to practice self-denial. I always did it because I wanted to live a richer life and ... market research, surveys and trends

Get Rich Slowly - Personal Finance That Makes Cents
Over the past couple of weeks, more than a few GRS readers have complained about the site’s tone. These folks are afraid that Get Rich Slowly is turning into a column that’s only about frugality and self-denial, one that is neglecting the “rich” part of the blog’s title. These concerns came to the fore in last week’s article about remembering to appreciate what I already have . In that discussion, ObjectiveGeek wrote: I want the best possible life for myself and my family. Europe lectures Obama on stimulus and debt
After 16 months and hundreds of billions in debt-financed “stimulus” spending, President Barack Obama is still pushing for more public borrowing to prop up demand, both here and abroad. Writing to other national leaders ahead of this weekend’s G-20 meeting in Toronto, Obama called for “unity of purpose to provide the policy support necessary to keep economic growth strong.” Translation: Spend, baby, spend. But fewer and fewer people are buying it this time. In Britain, the new government reburied Keynes last week, choosing budget austerity over further stimulus. Germany rebuffed Obama’s requests to keep priming the pump (link ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

What makes a press release newsworthy? | LinkedIn Answers | LinkedIn
I can find very few reasons to "issue" a press release, as the main form of communicating news. They are mostly ignored by media organizations, percieved as spin and hype. In my mind, it's old school. A company I worked for still does this. While they have someone in an office writing the release, then moving it around for sign offs, then clearing it with legal, I had already eblasted the database, tweeted the headline and sent messages to my distribution list of bloggers and influencers. When a new product or service is announced, a skilled PR expert will send out messaging to her/his network of media contacts with one or ...
Say I buy a stock for one dollar today, tomorrow its only worth ...
In the toilet! If you buy a car and drive it of the lot, it instantly isn't worth as much. If you tried to take it to another lot for trade, or sell it privately, they won't give you what you paid. Same car, just societies perception. If no one is buying the product that your stock is for, than the value goes down. it is very simple. If McDonalds is a brand new company and they have stock worth .50 a share, and in a year they are the most popular burger place around and everyone eats there, the stock will go up and be worth $100 a share. So, if you bought 1,000 shares for .50 at $500, and a year later ...
