Chapter 11 indicates the business is viable but is reorganizing. In almost all instances the equity holders (that's the stock holder) is wiped out. The way the categories of stake holders works is that the equity owners are the lowest. That means all other creditors have to be paid off before the equity holders get anything. Generally in a reorg, the bond holders end up with a new equity and the equity holders are wiped out. Why the exchanges let firms in Chapter 11 still trade is a mystery to me.
