or any other investment. Financial modeling is a general term that means different things to different users; the reference usually relates either to accounting applications, or to quantitative finance applications. While there has been some debate in the industry as to the nature of financial modeling - whether it is a tradecraft , such as welding, or a science , such as metallurgy - the task of financial modeling has been gaining acceptance and rigor over the years. [2] Several scholarly books have been written on the topic, in addition to numerous scientific articles.

PRMIA announces today the appointment of Thomas Day as the new Regional Director of the Washington DC Chapter. In his role as the Managing Director for Risk and Policy at SunGard Financial Services he is responsible for assessing risk across the balance sheet of some of the largest banks in the United States, understanding the risk management challenges - be they credit, market, liquidity, funding, price and other risks - and developing and deploying solutions that improve efficiency, capital measurement and, perhaps most importantly, foster the right set of enterprise-wide incentives. Not surprisingly, this view isn't ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
The Bottom Billion - Paul Collier - Books - Review - New York Times
It is perhaps a sign of how far sub-Saharan Africa still has to go that the most vigorous and certainly the best publicized debate about its economic future in recent years has been between two American economists based in New York. On one side of the argument is Jeffrey D. Sachs, the director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University and the author of The End of Poverty. On the other is William Easterly of New York University , whose ironically titled White Mans Burden lampoons Sachs as a modern version of a 19th-century utopian. There is indeed something faintly Victorian about Sachss messianic yet parsimonious ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Where can I learn about quantitative analysis (Finance) online?
1) If you want to do quantitative analysis in the quant sense then you need to start learning math. For example I am an engineer and thus the quant’s math is not a big deal and I just needed to brush up on stuff. If you do not have any of these credentials then you are going to have a BIG problem. It is not that you cannot learn it, but you need to learn the basics. 2) You need to understand statistics, probability, combinatorics, and basic maths (calculus, algebra at the university level. 3) You need to understand the time value of money and what money is. For example, do you understand the velocity of money? Now to answer your ...

whatever you want to call it. How would I go about doing so? What books should I get? I imagine there are some standard textbooks that most students use available on amazon, what are they? I think I have most of the math background needed (I might need to bone up on some things) and I certainly have the computer background. I don't know too much about finance, but I enjoy learning things on my own. Perhaps you could search online for a course syllabus from your local university and then go and buy that book. My gut feeling is that these types of courses are graduate level only and so there is not really enough demand for ...
