Clinton presided over the continuation of an economic expansion that would later become the longest period of peace-time economic expansion in American history. The Congressional Budget Office reported a budget surplus in 2000, the last full year of Clinton's presidency. After a failed attempt at health care reform , Republicans won control of the House of Representatives in 1994, for the first time in forty years. Two years later, in 1996, Clinton was re-elected and became the first member of the Democratic Party since Franklin D. Roosevelt to win a second full term as president. 3 Later he was impeached for perjury and ...

Hello from Mt. Vernon Virginia! As Janine mentioned in her essay last night, we have been very busy over the past few days reading essays and poems, viewing short films and public service announcements, listening to songs, and looking at artwork, all submitted by a diverse group of young people across the country, with theme of how the Constitution is relevant to them today!  The good news is that we received an overwhelming response for our first “We The People 9.17 Contest!”   The entries have been inspiring! The contest entrants all worked hard and put forth their very best efforts and creativity! The bad news is that there ... market research, surveys and trends
Carpetbagger allegations, gay film intensify 5th District campaign ...
Virgil H. Goode Jr. (left) and Jerry Meadors, co-writer and producer of “Eden’s Curve,” both say they are confounded as to how Goode’s fax number ended up on the brochure for InsideOut, a gay film festival featuring the movie. The race between U.S. Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr., R-Rocky Mount , and Democratic challenger Tom Perriello continued to intensify Thursday, as Goode portrayed Perriello as a carpetbagger while facing new questions about his Danville office’s connections to a 2003 film that depicts gay sex, violence and drugs. “ Tom Perriello continues to refute that he is a New York ... market research, surveys and trends

Kenny Golden, a former chairman of the Virginia Beach Republican Party now running as an independent, earned 4 percent. Virginia Politics Blog - Poll shows Rep. Perriello trailing by 23 ...
A new survey of Virginia's 5th district race paints a tough reelection picture for freshman Rep. Tom Perriello (D). Sen. Robert Hurt (R) is leading the incumbent, 58 percent to 35 percent, according to the survey , conducted by SurveyUSA for WDBJ News in Roanoke. Independent candidate Jeffrey Clark, who says he's running because Hurt isn't conservative enough, took 4 percent in the poll. According to WDBJ, "The survey sample included more Republicans than Democrats, evidence SurveyUSA says of 'an energized Republican base and an enthusiasm gap for Democrats.' If the likely voter model included an ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Woolsey to introduce 'robust public option' bill
This is fantastic to see... now all it has to do is clear THREE hurdles... 1st: The Blue Dogs in the House... Let's assume it actually clears that... then 2nd, it runs into the Brick wall known as "Obstructionist GOP Senate Minority"... and if by some miracle it clears that... then it faces the Veto pen of our "Bipartisan pocket dweller of the Health Insurance Companies" President Obama.... who will still be extending the "Hand of Bipartisanship" into the wood chipper known as the GOP So basically.... good luck... But it could be a nonstarter in the Senate this year Last time around ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Lawmakers resist rising pressure to audit campaign-fund expenditures
A growing chorus of Virginia legislators and campaign reform activists wants the state to audit how politicians spend their political donations -- a system they say is open to abuse. The General Assembly rejected such oversight this year but agreed to consider the issue again in 2003. By then, a citizens group hopes to have enough private money to conduct the audits -- thus pre-empting the major objection of opponents. "Audits, in my opinion, will provide for more accountability," said Delegate S. Chris Jones , R-Suffolk. He has led the push for campaign-finance reforms, such as auditing the ...

Participating in the Political Process: campaign expense, tv air ...
I hope this doesn't sound to stupid.  Instead of the millions of dollars being spent on campaigning why can't the candidates each get the same amount of TV air time to show what their plans are?  All the travel, flyers, pins seem wasteful. It would give all people a chance to hear all views. Answer This is a wonderful question! Campaign finance reform is a very important theme in American politics. There are limits individuals and political action committees (PACs) can donate to campaigns as an attempt to level the playing field. However, disparity continues to persist. Some candidates can raise more money ...
