a wider role in the great game
Banks see an increasing need to generate new business and look more closely at the changing pattern of global trade flows. We take a look at the year gone by. So what sort of a year has it been within trade and trade finance? Perhaps more to the point, how do you judge this – profit made by your department, your bonus perhaps, general well-being of your business line, strength of your company or institution? One could take any of these, but that would only be a snapshot, ultimately all these factors and more need to be considered to determine the overall bigger picture. It is my honour to present to you the results, in terms of deliverables and commitments made, of the Conference. Thus the report I present is not only by its very nature incomplete, but should also be seen as merely an ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Director-General Pascal Lamy, in his keynote address to the Global Commodities Finance Conference in Geneva on 9 June 2010, warned that lower-income developing countries, particularly in Sub Saharan Africa, continue to face “strong constraints” in trade finance despite the return of liquidity to the bulk of trade markets.
