A long-awaited restructuring deal for its flagship conglomerate, Dubai World, included a $9.5 billion cash injection by the emirate and its richer neighbour, Abu Dhabi. But the bulk of the money will be poured into completing property developments for Dubai World's worst-affected subsidiary Nakheel, builder of some of the city's flashiest show-pieces such as the "Palms" and "The World", a chain of islands in the Gulf. The company's biggest trade creditors, including British building firms, will be asked to accept down-payments of 40pc on billions of dollars of unpaid fees, ...
banking system caused by the overvaluation of assets. It has resulted in the collapse of large financial institutions, the bailout of banks by national governments and downturns in stock markets around the world. In many areas, the housing market has also suffered, resulting in numerous evictions , foreclosures and prolonged vacancies. It is considered by many economists to be the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. It contributed to the failure of key businesses, declines in consumer wealth estimated in the trillions of U.S. dollars, substantial financial commitments incurred by governments , and a ...
Harvey Organ's - The Daily Gold: August 3.2010 commentary..important.
Gold rose today up $1.80 to 1185.20.  Silver rose 1 cent to 1841.00 after flirting with 18.55 early in the session. The gold comex OI rose today by a good 1416 contracts to 523,083 dispelling rumours of a complete spec liquidation. In another surprising statistic, the silver comex OI continues to rise, closing today at 120730 up  1639 contracts. In silver it seems that the banking cartel are trying desperating to cover their shorts.  In gold, the picture is still quite mirky but it seems that demand is rising globally for the physical metal.  We even had the head of banking at UBS state that many ... market research, surveys and trends

Dear Reader, I have three excellent articles from my esteemed colleagues to share with you today, so I’ll be taking a back seat in today’s missive after a brief anecdote. On the way home from the office last night, I stopped at a little convenience store that I frequent to buy some milk, a sandwich, and a bottle of a local craft beer I’m quite fond of. After tallying up my three items, the clerk said to me, “That will be $8,000, sir.” With hardly a breath in between, he then said, only half-joking, “Sorry, ... market research, surveys and trends

Credit Suisse, UBS May Provide Refuge From Europe's Debt Storm ...
May 28 (Bloomberg) -- Investment banks, shunned by investors during the last credit crisis, may be best placed among Europe’s financial firms to weather the region’s sovereign debt woes. Bernstein and Keefe Bruyette & Woods Ltd. The three banks, based outside the euro region, are likely to face less risk from the sovereign debt and sputtering economies of southern Europe than commercial banking rivals, while benefiting from currency and debt ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Funds, Banker or Broker - who takes better care of my nest egg ...
I got laid off, have a 401k (in Fidelity right now) with $100k+ and want to roll it over into an IRA. I would consiter a Roth IRA if I get lucky and find a job this year because of low income so far and spreading taxes over two years. I read here about the following IRA options: Just put it into a options and fees Put it into a self-directed IRA account with Fidelity for instance. Find a broker who will help pick investments. Now I admit I can't pick investments. I had kept my money in the fidelity freedom fund for its automatic allocation. HOWEVER, that might not be the best way to build value. My ...
How many retirement accounts do you have (401Ks, other qualified ...
It's very easy to end up with a fair number of accounts. With IRAs, you can easily end up with separate accounts for yourself & your spouse, and also broken down based on tax status (Roth IRAs, SEP-IRAs, Deductible IRAs, Non-Deductible IRAs). It's also not uncommon for people to have a 401(k) or 403(b) from every company they've worked for. The first step is to consolidate similar accounts that don't need to be separate. Rolling over an old 401(k) into a Rollover IRA is a no-brainer - you'll get more investment choices and the option to roll it back into a 401(k) if you ever decide to. You also might ...
