The State of Rhode Island has won a $5-million insurance settlement to help resolve claims of waste and wrongdoing at the state dump that auditors say cost taxpayers $75 million. By June 29, the RSUI Indemnity Co. will pay $5 million under a directors and officers liability policy the company had issued to the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation. With the New York State Supreme Court ruling that Dell Computer engaged in fraud against consumers in the state, the once-dominant computer maker has agreed to settle charges, paying $4 million in restitution, penalties and costs.
