and blew away eastward and southward in large dark clouds. At times the clouds blackened the sky reaching all the way to East Coast cities such as New York and Washington, D.C. Much of the soil ended up deposited in the Atlantic Ocean , carried by prevailing winds which were in part created by the dry and bare soil conditions itself. These immense dust storms—given names such as "Black Blizzards" and "Black Rollers"—often reduced visibility to a few feet (around a meter). The Dust Bowl affected , centered on the panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma, and adjacent parts of New Mexico, Colorado, and Kansas. Millions ...
Carlsbad Real Estate News and Views: Close of Escrow or Settlement ...
The main purpose of this article is to generate discussion and debate, with advice offered by fellow agents, and a sharing of good, and bad, experiences.   The issue?  When does the buyer get to move into the new home?   In general, once escrow has closed, or settlement occurs, the new home owners are given the keys to their new home and can move in. Occupancy is specified clearly in the Offer to Purchase Contact here in California and is part of the negotiation and contract. But there are a number of scenarios that can occur.  Is occupancy by the end of the day at Close of Escrow? Maybe.  What if the ... market research, surveys and trends
Which Comes First, The Buying or The Selling
In the ongoing Saga of myself as a Realtor buying and selling my own home, my husband and I too were presented with the classic chicken and egg debate: “Do we buy the house to move to first and then sell our home?” OR “Do we sell the house we live in not knowing where we will go after it sells?”  When I have on my professional Realtor hat, I start the dialogue with people who present the dilemma by asking: “Can you can qualify and afford to own two homes at the same time?” Because if you can’t do that financially, then the question has already been answered for you. You will have to sell and then figure out where you will go, ... market research, surveys and trends

Depending on God on Independence Day
Raise a toast to the one secular holiday that will never be converted into just another Monday holiday. The 4th of July will always be the 4th, forcing us to adapt as it migrates through the days of the week. It is independent of our usual comfortable schedules, and a bit unpredictable even when we fit it into a typical three day weekend pattern. That's a good thing. Independence Day wasn't about a comfortable status quo as British subjects, it was about rocking the boat and overthrowing the lawfully ordained government. From the British perspective, the Americans were ungrateful children, ignoring the money, lives and ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Happy birthday to Elk Grove
On July 1, 2000, Elk Grove became the first new city in California and perhaps in the U. S. as well. A flag flew over the U. S. Capitol to commemorate Elk Grove’s cityhood, thanks to the late Robert Matsui. Our city flag will remind us forever that Elk Grove is connected to our state and national capitals, Sacramento and Washington D. C. Ten years later, we continue to recognize the importance of preserving our history and the roots of our existence that brought us to where we are today. Elk Grove became a city because of the vision, determination, and hard work of south Sacramento County residents that culminated in our ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Life & Health Insurance: wet paper, life insurance settlements ...
The answer that Mike gave is correct. I would just like to add something to what he put. What the question was referring to was wet paper life insurance settlements. These are in a gray area of the industry, but are also currently legal in all 50 states. If you were to go with the immediate 3% of the face amount you are going to be required to pay $0 out of pocket total. This does net an immediate but small return. You will be required to pay out the first two years of the premium payments if you wish to recieve the 20%-50% you are talking about, because the policy will be out of the "contestable" period. That, ...
WikiAnswers - What were the 3 causes of the dust bowl
During early European and American exploration of the Great Plains, the region in which the Dust Bowl occurred was thought unsuitable for European-style agriculture; indeed, the region was known as the Great American Desert. The lack of surface water and timber made the region less attractive than other areas for pioneer settlement and agriculture. However, following the Civil War, settlement in the area increased, encouraged by the Homestead Act and westward expansion. An unusually wet period in the Great Plains led settlers and government to believe that "rain follows the plow" and that the climate of the region had ...
