Your Margin of Safety

I still own a few shares of GOOG. It’s felt overpriced recently, but I’m holding onto a minimal amount at all times and trying to add more over time. So I’m hoping the price drops a bunch so I can pick up more cheaply. Do a search here for GOOG for my previous thoughts (years old), but I basically think that the world will continue to be drowned in data. Google’s goal to organize the world’s information and their expertise at scaling Internet apps puts them in a great position to be a contender in just about any future technology. Anyway, I’ve recently read Phil Town’s new book Payback Time
Buffett, who credits Graham as grounding him with a sound intellectual investment framework, described him as the second most influential person in his life after his own father. In fact, Graham had such an overwhelming influence on his students that two of them, Buffett and Kahn, named their sons, Howard Graham Buffett and Thomas Graham Kahn, after him.
Buffett's Dictum and Your Margin of Safety | Adrian Ash ...
a business perfectly and the future of the business, you would need very little in the way of a margin of safety," said Warren Buffett at Berkshire Hathaway's annual meeting in 1997. He had first issued his famous dictum twenty years earlier. Buffett referred to it again in 2005. "We [only] borrow money against portfolios of interest-bearing receivables whose risk characteristics we understand," he told his shareholders...and the BRK faithful just loved it. Climbers – Do You Know Your Margin Of Safety?
Well, do you? Just what is a climbers margin of safety? In simple terms it is the protective buffer that an experienced climber keeps between what he or she knows to be the limit of their ability, and what they actually try to climb. Sounds simple right? And it is, but how does a climber know their limit of ability? You learn your margin of safety by climbing near ground level, or by being tied to a rope and belayed by an experienced climber above. Climbing first on the easy holds, next on the more difficult holds, and finally on more and more difficult pitches charm bracelets until you reach your limit of ability. Intrinsic Value -Stock Valuation basics
Without knowing what a stock is worth- in other words its Intrinsic Value- how can you know how much you should pay for it? Stocks should be purchased because they are trading at some discount to their intrinsic value, not simply because they are priced at a higher or lower point than similar companies. The big drawback of the ratios discussed in the Stock Valuation Basics section is that they are all based on price - they compare what investors are currently paying for one stock to what they are paying for another stock. Ratios do not, however, tell you anything about value, which is what a stock is actually worth. Comparing ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
How to invest profitably in volatile markets
Volatility is a recurrent feature of modern markets. The market surges wildly up one day, sharply down the next as sentiment rather valuations becomes its main driver. Making money in such times demands both a cool head and some appropriate tweaking of your normal investing tools and skills. A n investor's style should change in several ways in a turbulent market. First, a good investor becomes a more active decision-maker. In a turbulent market, the reason the market is moving up or down is that something is changing in the current situation or, more probably, in expectations for the future. As a result, an investor has ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
My Investing Blueprint
I strive to follow this blueprint in my own investing and believe it will help you if you learn it and put it into practice. It serves as a great checklist that you can use to evaluate your investing behavior and achieve success as an investor. Here’s the blueprint: To a large extent, finding great investments is a numbers game. You need to look at a large number of companies before you find a truly great opportunity. In this regard, its not that different from a sales funnel. In order to close a sale, a salesperson might first need to make one hundred cold calls. Great sales people realize this and do the necessary seed work to ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

WikiAnswers - What is an integrated headset
An integrated headset (not to be confused with an internal headset, see below) is one in which the top and bottom cartridge bearings are pressed directly into the head tube of the frame. Integrated headsets have the advantage of a lower stack height, since the bearings are contained inside the frame, as opposed to a standard headset, which has cups pressed into the frame, with the bearings resting in those cups, above and below the head tube. A significant disadvantage of the integrated design lies in the damage that can occur to the frame if the headset adjustment becomes loose; the fork and bearings clunking back and forth ...
