It's Official: Obama Is Against the Public Option | FDL Action
The White House finally made official what we have known for a long time: President Obama is against the public option. How do we know this? Because Obama, for the first time ever, released his own official health care reform proposal — and it does not contain a public option. You can’t claim to support an idea if you are unwilling to make it part of your own proposal. Since the package is designed to pass using reconciliation, the fact that Joe Lieberman, Blanche Lincoln, and Ben Nelson are against the public option is irrelevant. The public option already passed the House, and Sen. Tom Harkin said a public option ... market research, surveys and trends

On Journolist, and Dave Weigel
I began Journolist in February of 2007. It was an idea born from disagreement. Weeks, or maybe months, earlier, I had criticized Time's Joe Klein over some comments he made about the Iraq War. He e-mailed a long and searching reply, and the subsequent conversation was educational for us both. Taking the conversation out of the public eye made us less defensive, less interested in scoring points. I learned about his position, and why he held it, in ways that I wouldn't have if our argument had remained in front of an audience. The experience crystallized an idea I'd been kicking around for some time. I was on all ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Minority populations and tolerance grow, but true integration still a challenge
Ifyou had walked the hallways of Rochester’s East High School before school let out last week, for every 100 students you passed, only 10 would be white. A similar walk down the halls of Pittsford Mendon High School, though, would have provided the opposite experience. For every 100 students, all but nine would be white. Race would not be the only difference. Four out of five East students qualify for free and reduced-price lunches. At Pittsford Mendon, three out of 100 qualify for that assistance. The two schools exemplify a fact of life in Rochester that goes far beyond schoolhouse walls, though it’s easier to ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

WikiAnswers - What is the difference between public goods and ...
Public goods also provide benefits to society as a whole. But a public good can serve a small number of people or a large number of people at exactly the same cost. Education would be a merit good - it benefits everyone. A lighthouse would be a public good - it benefits everyone, but costs the same to supply to one person as it does to supply to thousands of people. One person's consumption of a public good does not diminish the supply for someone else. First answer by ID3568797392 . Last edit by ID3568797392 . Question popularity : 1 [ recommend question ]. The government has gotten entirely out of control and so the public sector should be providing these services. Public schools have become totally ineffective as have most government run agencies.
