In an effort to compel oil and gas companies to produce on the 68 million acres of federal lands, both onshore and offshore, that are leased but sitting idle, House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Nick J. Rahall (D-WV) today introduced legislation that gives Big Oil one option - either "use it or lose it." "Big Oil, as many Americans already suspect, are perfectly fine with high gasoline prices at the pump while they hold back domestic production on federal leases and enjoy world record profits.  I am calling them on the carpet. I am calling their bluff.  We are not going to continue to allow them to speculate and ...

Earth To California Voters: We Have Created A Train Wreck ...
The latest poll shows that Arnold Schwarzenegger now holds the embarassing distinction of having the same 22% favorability rate as Gray Davis had when Davis became the first Governor in modern-day California to be recalled by an angry electorate. Of course the public is angry again and for good reason: we're at a 12.3% unemployment rate; we have one of the highest foreclosure rates in the country; the Republicans in the legislature continue to demand that we cut the taxes of fat-cat corporations and the well-heeled oil industry and yet demand more from hard-working Californians, while providing us with less. We're ... market research, surveys and trends

on the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion and oil spill.  The Natural Resources Committee has responsibility for this offshore leasing spill and the natural resource damages caused by the spill. Ranking Member Doc Hastings has repeatedly said that our immediate priority must be stopping the leak, cleaning up the oil and responding to the needs of the threatened and impacted communities.  There are, however, many tough questions that need to be answered on what happened, what went wrong and if the federal government responded appropriately.  Those responsible for the spill must be held fully accountable for their actions.  And we ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Oil Watch: BP caps oil well, optimism grows hourly
Although the leak has been stopped and even if no oil escapes for 48 hours, the flow of oil and gas has not been stopped permanently. If the pressure within the cap on top is low, it may mean that oil is leaking out further down the well. The U.S. government’s incident commander, Admiral Thad Allen, said even if it was successful, the well would be reopened and oil capture by ships on the surface would restart while a seismic test was done. He emphasized that the option of shutting the well was a “side benefit” of the new capping stack. Adm. Allen said the priority has always been to increase the amount of oil being captured and ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
House committee passes ban on future BP leases
(Reuters) - BP Plc's safety record would bar the company from getting new U.S. offshore oil and gas exploration leases for up to seven years under bill language passed on Wednesday by a U.S. House committee. The Committee on Natural Resources voted to pass an amendment by Representative George Miller, a California Democrat, that would prevent BP and other companies from getting new leases from the Department of the Interior unless they pass safety and environmental requirements. The amendment did not mention BP specifically, but it would not allow any company to get leases that had more than 10 fatalities at drilling and ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Do you think that sarah palin is qualified to be vice president?
Leaving a small town of 5,000 several million dollars in debt and trying to get your ex brother in law fired are not things that scream competence and honesty to me. If he really wanted to pick a woman this site has a list of people that would have been valid picks. Any of the following would have been fully qualified and they all just show how unqualified Palin really is. Republican women that are better qualified than Sarah Palin. 1. Christie Todd Whitman (R-New Jersey)- Worked in the Nixon administration. Served as President of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities in the cabinet of Gov. Thomas Kean. Former governor of ...
