The Ethics of Workplace Personality Tests « Ethics Alarms
If you have been in the workforce for any length of time at all, the chances are that you have taken one or more tests designed to determine your “personality type.” These tests, the most common of which is the Myers-Briggs, typically ask you to choose among various tasks, occupations, reactions to various situations and self-identified character traits, and then apply those choices to a formula that yields a particular workplace personality type. Myer-Briggs, for example, has sixteen categories; all of them are described in positive terms. Thus test-takers whose answer reveal themselves as “ENTJ” personalities are… Frank, ... market research, surveys and trends

A brief history of employee personality testing
The summer between my freshman and sophomore years in college, I spent twenty hours a week in a small, gray-paneled cubicle calling up strangers and asking them, "Do you approve or disapprove of the job George Bush is doing as president?" Hey, I was getting paid. It was shortly after the first Gulf War, and the responses to this question were depressingly positive. Still, I liked my job. I was working for Gallup Polls; it had name recognition, the pay was good, and the work itself (which also included conducting customer-satisfaction surveys and marketing ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Personality Testing in Employment
Faced with an increasingly competitive business environment, many employers are turning to employment testing as a way to improve their workforces. In a recent survey, forty percent of Fortune 100 companies indicated that their employment selection systems included some form of psychological testing. A similar survey by the American Management Association showed that forty-four percent of its responding members used testing to select employees. While cognitive ability tests continue to be the most commonly used form of psychological testing in the workplace, personality tests are being used more and more frequently. GOV2.0: Personality Tests for Public Employees
At issue is human “spite” and how it affects economic development.  If you’ve ever dealt with public employees, certainly you know them to be some of the most spiteful monkeys in the barrel.   They are capricious and angry, they forget who they work for, and they wield power arbitrarily.  Somehow, you feel lucky when they actually do their jobs. Caveat: Some aren’t bad.  But WHY do we have to accept it at all? Yes, firing them is next to impossible, but setting up new rules for hiring them is easy as pie. The GOP should promise to establish a Civil Service Personality Exam for all public employees that ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Weird and Wacky Job Interviews: Bad Hiring and Bad Psychology
Although the job interview is the most frequently used method for hiring employees, it is very often misused because many interviewers insist on using wacky methods and asking weird questions. The irony is that many of these interviewers firmly believe that their hiring methods work, but psychological research suggests otherwise. Here are some of my favorites: Weird question #1 : "If you were a car, what kind would you be?" You would be surprised how often this question, or its many variations ("animal,""superhero," "color," etc.) are asked. The flimsy justification is that work ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Google Answers: Tips on taking an on-online Employment/Job test
Several months ago I was required to take an on-line employment test. It was very short and took only 7 minutes. I had to choose from among about 50 different behavior characteristics in 2 parts. Part 1 asked me to select what I thought other people expected of me and part 2 asked me what I really thought of my true behavior. I was cautioned not to redo or change any answers. When I finished part 1 only then did I see part 2 and could not go back. I was told I did poorly. Yesterday, I was told by another employer that they will require me to take a job test on "jobsonline". I do not wish to do poorly. What tips or ...
