When several thousand students hit the Western Carolina University campus last week for the beginning of the fall semester, some of them arrived with more than mini-fridges, posters and desktop computers. Some of them also carried the flu virus. WCU students, faculty and staff are encouraged to wash their hands frequently and use hand sanitizers to help prevent the spread of flu. During the first two days of classes, staff at the University Health Center treated about 20 suspected cases of the flu, a number that had swollen to about 82 by Monday morning.
