A view of the edifice of Navy Pier, where the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authorirty (MPEA) has recently recommended cost-cutting measures, which include making Navy Pier and McCormick Place union workers into public employees. Obstacles To Sustaining A Labor Management Partnership: A ...
Labor-management cooperation is a revolution in the way we do business. Thanks to the City of Fort Lauderdale's vision and support, I have been fortunate to work with one of the most successful public sector labor-management partnerships in the country. This effort, referred to as CALM (the Cooperative Association of Labor and Management), was initiated in 1993. In that year we experienced budget cuts and staff reductions. Revenues were flat and taxpayers were asking for tax cuts. Under these conditions, I turned to Cathy Dunn, President of AFSCME Local 532, which represents 1,000 general city employees, and suggested that ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

City workers accept benefit cuts in Palo Alto
Don't scapegoat Lynn Krug. If you are an SEIU member, you are ignorant of her contribution to the PA Chapter, all of which was done on a volunteer basis. Lynn has been involved in the PA Chapter for years and stepped-up to Chair the PA Chapter when no one else would. She worked tirelessly to maintain employees benefits, make sure job descriptions matched work performed, headed-up the study for the clerical workers to be reclassified/realigned, attended Labor/Management meetings and kept on HR and other City Management/Departments to be accountable when employees were not being treated fairly or employee grievances were not ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Business Meetings: How to Run Productive and Effective Business ...
How productive are your business meetings? Would you describe the culture that governs your meetings to more resemble World War III or crazy chaos? During a meeting, do you focus on the agenda at hand or do you concentrate more on breaking a foam cup into bits? Would you qualify eating all of the donuts in a meeting as a major accomplishment in your agenda? If these meeting scenarios sound familiar to you, you are not alone! Many studies have shown that more time is wasted in meetings than in any other business activity. It is estimated that people spend 20-40% (upper management is much more) of their time in ...
