Some cartoonists specialise in drawing or painting caricatures, and are known as caricaturists. Others produce comic strips, telling jokes or short stories with a series of pictures. Many people who grew up here in the land of sunshine, freeways and palm trees probably remember a time in Southern California television history when "the independents," KTLA-TV, KHJ-TV, KTTV-TV and KCOP-TV, pretty much filled their morning or afternoon programming with cartoons.
