REVIEWS AND OPINIONS
Book Review: Chris Argyris – Reasons and Rationalizations | The ...
Chris Argyris’ (2004) most recent book builds on his prior scholarship in organizational learning and change. He unites several different theories with which he has worked over the years in this concise volume to explain two key issues: why individuals in organizations do not learn effectively and why scholars have not been very successful at helping organizations reverse this trend. He identifies defensive reasoning as the chief factor that prohibits individuals and groups within organizations from learning because they: protect one another from embarrassment or harm; employ self-referential logic; avoid transparency ... market research, surveys and trends
Sounds of Silence by Elizabeth Wolfe Morrison and Frances J ...
The above article written by Elizabeth and Frances describes pretty interesting organizational ills like “the dean’s disease” that arise when leaders, managers, or supervisors have put a failed system in place full with yes people afraid of voicing their concerns, problems, opinions, or ideas, and even worse afraid of challenging their bosses’ thoughts and beliefs. This organizational silence becomes then a potentially dangerous hindrance to organizational learning and change process; because employees are led to believe that their opinions and ideas have neither voice nor are heard, putting the shareholders’ capital on the line ... market research, surveys and trends

(a 3p sponsor) – designed for students who want to understand the nature of organizations, collaborative practices, and transformative change. By Alexander and Kathia Laszlo If there were an easy manual for sustainability, we’d follow it:  western culture loves three easy steps, quick decisions, and technical fixes.  Such a manual is great, for the right problem when we’re dealing with technical problems for which there are known solutions.  But life isn’t a problem to be solved, and neither are people or nature, or sustainability … though we often treat them as if they were. Sunday Morning Open Thread: Five Questions
1. After reading dozens of commentaries from both local and national writers I feel pretty good about the trade. It's a big gamble, but one worth taking in my opinion. The record number of walk-up sales for yesterday's game shows one of the side benefits. Aces leading a division winner in September and October mean $ for the team. 2. If Davis does nothing this time around he'll need a change of scenery, I think. 3. Very interesting. probably strengthens their chances at winning the bidding. 4. Organizational Learning is No Accident - HBS Working Knowledge
With so much riding on success, you would think that companies would be better at learning. Amazingly, it seems as if they fight tooth and nail against learning, often with disastrous results. The reasons, however, make a lot of sense. And once you understand the reasons, you just might be able to make a difference. If not, at least you can feel self-righteous when the insanity starts. Few of us think much about learning when not in school or in a training environment. But learning doesn't just happen; it takes reflection and thought. Reflection time used to be built into the world. It took three weeks for a head-office ...

Is there a way to modelize the strategy formulation process until ...
I wonder if someone has already build a model that (theoretically) help decision makers to transform their "mission & vision" to a planned strategy, then, to a set of KPI's. (Maybe using tools & concept like "issue analysis", "Michael Porter's value chain", "Environment analysis", "McKinsey's 7 s", "Balanced Scorecard", what else? anything that helps carrying out such a model !!) posted February 15, 2007 in Business Analytics | Closed Share This Visting Lecturer at Goldsmiths College, University of London see all my answers Best Answers in: Software Development (2), Business Analytics (1), Change Management (1), ...

Networking is the norm in organisations these days, to seek information across departments and hierarchies and to get your work done. Would an intra corporate facebook/linkedin make sense and enable employees to quickly move across layers and tap into the learnings that exists within quickly?
