Less synchronised business cycles would be good news for the world economy, allowing for more stable global growth and opportunities for risk-sharing across countries. However, is decoupling fact or fiction? This column says that, contrary to much current commentary, there is no downward trend in synchronisation. Much recent research has investigated the degree of cross-country synchronisation of business cycles, primarily from an empirical perspective. Two recent contributions are Kose , Otrok and Prasad (2008) and Wälti (2009); the former make a cautious case for “decoupling”, while the latter is more sceptical.

Inclusive practices within cultures of educational organizations ...
Inclusive practices within cultures of educational organizations; the implications of implementing inclusive policies on educational organizations.   By Partson Musosa Phiri Introduction There appears to be a growing body of knowledge suggesting the significance of organizational culture in reform efforts created by the growing level of globalization, marketization, heightened volatility, hyper-competition, demographic changes and the explosion of knowledge (Evans and Lunt, 2002; Leisen,, 2002; Prange, 1999; Sheffield, 2007; Tierney, 1988). The significance is further highlighted by the need by organizations to remain ... market research, surveys and trends
Three Cheers for American Exceptionalism…Pass It On!
Far-left ideologues and self-styled intellectual illuminati have, for years, labored overtime to highjack the notion of American Exceptionalism by equating it with their own notion of American arrogance.  Let us put an end to this calumny. Let us recall and, indeed, praise the American Exceptionalism at which Alexis de Tocqueville marveled when, during his travels through the young country in 1831, he coined the term in his treatise, “Democracy in America.” De Tocqueville was writing for the European reader, especially for his fellow Frenchmen far more than he was writing for the new and vibrant American marketplace.  Whereas ... market research, surveys and trends

Troubling trends fuel high cost of cops' overtime ...
Look for the highest-paid Rochester city employee last year and the search won't lead to the mayor, the police chief or other department heads. The highest paid city worker was a police officer. The second-highest paid? A police officer. So was the third. Each was paid more than $125,000, their base salaries bolstered by overtime pay. None was fighting crime on Rochester's streets. Instead, the highest paid was a front-desk sergeant at headquarters paid $135,958 before taxes including $56,991 in overtime pay. Next on the list was a lieutenant who oversaw special events such as parades and festivals. He was followed ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Portland Police Bureau: A Review of Overtime Management Systems ...
Overtime work is an unavoidable cost of providing police services. Unpredictable events, court appearances, and public safety demands often require police officers and civilian support staff to work beyond normal work hours. According to the National Institute of Justice, it is not uncommon for police organizations to spend up to 6 percent of their budgets on overtime. At the request of the Mayor and the Chief of Police, we have audited the Portland Police Bureau’s practices and procedures for managing and controlling overtime expenditures. Our audit focuses on overtime management throughout the Bureau, with particular emphasis ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
The White House's economic message
"Today’s employment report shows continued signs of gradual labor market recovery," reads the first line of Christina Romer's analysis of the May jobs report. She emphasizes the 83,000 jobs created in the private sector (the 125,000 net job loss is due to census jobs expiring), and says that non-census employment rose by 100,000. That's true, and it may be an important way to look at it, but the census jobs were still jobs, and we're not growing nearly fast enough to reabsorb those workers. Romer's blog post and recent statements from and meetings with administration officials suggest that the White ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Cameras for cops in Seattle? An idea in search of a way to pay for it
But talking about the idea continues to prove easier than paying for it in a city facing a deficit of $56 million next year and a proposal from the mayor to cut into the Police Department's budget. Members of the City Council's energy, technology and civil rights committee met with camera company representatives, Assistant Chief Dick Reed, who is commander of the Police Department field support bureau, and a representative from the city's information technology department. Last week, Councilman Bruce Harrell scheduled the special meeting on the feasibility of placing video cameras on officers. Representatives of ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Did really short it's workers overtime pay?
Inc worker has sued the online retailer, saying it shorts as many as 21,000 warehouse workers nationwide on overtime pay. The lawsuit contends that Amazon's practice of rounding start and end times for shifts to the nearest quarter hour costs workers up to 15 minutes of overtime pay daily, even when the company requires workers to put in the extra time. Affected workers are "engaged in activities that were not undertaken for their own convenience (and) necessary for the performance of their duties," the complaint said. Amazon did not immediately return a call seeking a comment. The lawsuit was filed on November 25 ...
WikiAnswers - What is the average starting salary for a ...
A professional model starting out would be working on an hourly pay scale. The range is quite large depending on the specific job the person would be modeling for and could be anywhere from $10-$50 per hour and the work week would range from 15 to 20 hours per week. Translate the middle range ($20/per hour for 15 hrs/week) and you would come to around $15,000/year. Obviously, there are instances where individuals will make significantly more but this is a realistic range for someone just getting a start in the business. Also, the scale could range widely from city to city and country to country. First answer by Tigerwhit . ...
