Pass the aspirin: handling the ALCO [Asset Management Liability ...
Over the last year or so, bank asset-liability management, always a challenge, has been an especially big order. What with the Federal Reserve's numerous rate cuts, persistent but mostly erroneous predictions of Fed direction changes, and an economy that seems to defy everyone's crystal ball, ALM has kept bankers busy. We wondered how community banks organize their asset-liability management efforts these days: Who serves on the ALCO committee, what role do directors play, what consulting and other services the banks use, and more. We put these question to members of ABA's Community Bankers Council during ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Macon Health Club hopes marketing, new programs can spur turnaround
One of the several displays at the Macon Health Club promoting the fitness center’s place in downtown’s history features a pair of old leather, lace-up boxing gloves. The gloves are a nod to olden days, like when the center was started a century ago as a Christian boys club or later when it ran 1,000-members strong. Lately, however, the club has been on the ropes and in real danger of closing. Since at least 2008, The Medical Center of Central Georgia publicly has considered shutting down the club, which has been recording annual loses of about $100,000 a year. But recent changes point toward a possible turnaround, ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

IT Roles
The board of directors should approve IT plans, policies, and major expenditures. To carry out their responsibilities, board members should be familiar with information technology and data center concepts and activities. Many boards of directors choose to delegate the responsibility for monitoring IT activities to a senior management committee or IT steering committee. The IT steering committee’s mission should be to assist the board in overseeing IT-related activities. The committee should consist of representatives from senior management, the IT department, and major ... technology research, surveys study and trend statistics

What items do Board members want to see in the organisation's ...
I would like to address now what items Board members want to see, but what they SHOULD see! Board meetings and reports are filled with financial details--analysis of past results, projections of future results, and discussion of investment scenarios. These are unquestinably important, however, I believe that if boards placed more attention on other dimensions of the business, they would better be able to manage the financial side. Not enough boards require leadership reports on employee input, for example from employee surveys, customer perceptions, for example from customer surveys and sustainability status. In the latter ...
What is the difference between a task force and a committee ...
A task force is usually organized to deal with a specialized task. When the task is completed, the task force is disbanded. A committee is usually appointed for a specific function, and usually out of a larger body. For instance, a Board of Directors would appoint some of the members to a Finance committee whose special function would be to interface with the CFO, advise on minor problems, and review the annual financial report before presentation to the full Board. In my experience, committees last longer and talk more. There are currently no comments for this question. * You must be logged into Answers to add comments. Sign in or
