(1776) made this concept part of the framework of the English language, but he was not the first to speculate on why and when the Empire collapsed. "From the eighteenth century onward," Glen W. Bowersock has remarked, "we have been obsessed with the fall: it has been valued as an archetype for every perceived decline, and, hence, as a symbol for our own fears." It remains one of the greatest historical questions, and has a tradition rich in scholarly interest. In 1984, German professor Alexander Demandt published a collection of 210 theories on why Rome fell, and new theories have emerged since then. This ...

The most comprehensive survey ever into the state of the planet concludes that human activities threaten the Earth's ability to sustain future generations. The report says the way society obtains its resources has caused irreversible changes that are degrading the natural processes that support life on Earth. This will compromise efforts to address hunger, poverty and improve healthcare. The Millennium Ecosystem Assessment was drawn up by 1,300 researchers from 95 nations over a period of four years. This report is essentially an audit of nature's economy, and the audit shows we've driven most of the accounts into ... market research, surveys and trends

The Green Party of BC was founded in 1983 and our leader is Jane Sterk, an elected city councilor. We are encouraged to see the BC Liberals implement policy that we have been advocating for twenty years (i.e. healthy foods in schools, tax benefits for healthy living, carbon tax). The Green Party of BC is focused on seeing STV pass in 2009 and on elected MLA's in 2009. As of March 2008 we are polling between 16% - 21% province wide. FREE MARKET ECONOMIES: Ecosystem Changes Continue to Worsen - THE ...
A landmark study released today reveals that approximately 60 percent of the ecosystem services that support life on Earth such as fresh water, capture fisheries, air and water regulation, and the regulation of regional climate, natural hazards and pests are being degraded or used unsustainably. Scientists warn that the harmful consequences of this degradation could grow significantly worse in the next 50 years. Any progress achieved in addressing the goals of poverty and hunger eradication, improved health, and environmental protection is unlikely to be sustained if most of the ecosystem services on which humanity relies ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

SAUSALITO, CA--(Marketwire - July 2, 2010) -  While employee reports of layoffs declined in the second quarter, employees reveal companies may be cutting more than headcount to trim costs for recovery. In the second quarter, nearly half (45 percent) of employees 1 reported their employers made changes to the number of staff, organizational structure, compensation and benefits or other perks in the past six months. While these employees reported fewer instances of layoffs (47 percent) than in recent quarters, they reported higher rates of compensation cuts and changes (57 percent), including bonus reductions or ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Protecting Animal Migrations
If you've ever visited East Africa to see the Great Migration, you will have likely been struck by two things: first, a sense of wonderment as thousands of animals move in a faithful cycle across great expanses of uncharted land. Second, a concern that it will not continue. Currently 1.8 million wildebeest and zebra make their way across East Africa, following grasses whose freshness depends on the rainy season. Equally extraordinary migrations occur the world over among populations of salmon, butterflies, birds -- even dragonflies. Sadly, most are critically threatened by human development and changes in climate. The ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Global Change Research Highlights
Wood—the fuel source of the past—is expected to be a fuel source of the future. Fast-growing trees are being cloned and nurtured for conversion to biofuels to replace or supplement gasoline for transportation. The future may also bring higher temperatures and drought if global climate changes as predicted. So, it seems practical to raise fast-growing trees that not only provide fuel by capturing carbon from the atmosphere (helping to deter climate change) but also flourish under dry conditions. A recent ORNL finding has bearing on this goal. Hybrid willow trees have been cloned because they grow fast and serve as ... technology research, surveys study and trend statistics

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Google Answers: Marriage Statistics
Hello, aluchsinger-ga! I have worked on your question for several days and found it surprisingly hard to find many statistics which were not merely repeats of one another. While there are numerous articles and opinions on the web concerning each of these particular aspects of marriage, most of them do not include statistics. Those articles which do contain numbers are either too old, or repeat the same (or similar) statistics. After all, statistical studies are not too common, so other than the census reports and a few limited research studies, the numbers tend to remain the same even though the articles may be different! ...
