Schmitz thought it necessary to form this body to manage the crisis during the disaster, although there was no legal basis for it. It first assembled in the basement of the ruined Hall of Justice on Wednesday, April 18, at 3 p.m. By 5 p.m. the place became untenable and the Committee crossed Portsmouth Square to meet at the Plaza which in turn had to be abandoned 2 hours later. At 8 p.m. the Committee assembled at the Fairmont Hotel 's ballroom, sitting along the edge of the stage and on packing cases. At this point, the 19 sub-committees were set up. Shortly after 11 p.m. they dispersed. Overnight the Fairmont Hotel burned ...
Tribeca Citizen | CB1 Agendas for July
this month: The discussion of the potential removal of the Winter Garden staircase is sure to be a contentious one at the BPC committee meeting; the seven-story building being proposed for the corner of Franklin and Varick (currently a vacant lot, above), coming before the Landmarks committee (as well as Cordoba House, again); and Josephine, the bakery and restaurant coming to 40 Harrison (pictured above), is requesting liquor-license approval from the Tribeca committee. No clue what the northeast corner of Broadway and Reade could warrant a resolution about (it’s on the Tribeca committee agenda)…. L.A.'s Deadbeat Tab: Staggering $559 Million | San Fernando Valley ...
The City of Los Angeles loses out on millions of dollars in uncollected fees, fines, and permits every year due to inconsistent policies, multiple billing systems, antiquated technology, and staff shortages. Reports and studies over the past few years have all recommended the same solution – centralizing the collections process – but it has been slow to be implemented into the city’s bureaucracy. As of Dec. 31, the city had $559 million owed to it with about 20 percent of that amount being current or billed over 30 days or less. It is agreed by city officials and business leaders that the full amount will never be collected. ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Arkansas River tourism study moving forward
A new committee, appointed by Gov. Mike Beebe, will take on two pilot projects designed to bring tourism dollars to the Arkansas River corridor and the Delta region, through the development and promotion of the Arkansas River. Revenue from tourism fuels Arkansas’ economy. Last year, approximately 23 million tourists and business travelers spent $5.4 billion in the state, down from the 24 million who spent $5.6 billion in 2008. Broken down by county, Sebastian County took in $319 million in tourism dollars from 1.2 million visitors, also down from 2008, when 1.4 million tourists spent an estimated $363 million. Turbeville says getting Lehigh cleaned up is working
Bo Turbeville, chairman of what was called the Weed & Seed program out of the U.S. Dept. of Justice, says the name has been changed and more money has been included in the grants programs to help communities with problems with crime. The Weed & Seed program has been successful in Lehigh for the last few years, Turbeville said. "It has brought people together in the amount of cleanups of different communities and that is good. I think in the last few years we have had more than 500 people now who have worked together in the Weed & Seed initiative," Turbeville told a group of Chamber members last week. and peep this- Is there a Mayweather fan out there that doesn't think that Manny has to give in to every demand Mayweather gives such as blood test, 60/40 split, hometown Las Vegas fight, 12 oz. gloves, ??? Just use your head. Maybe the guy just don't want the fight. But why would he even ask for anything less then 8oz. gloves? Only as leverage for other demands, it's always 8oz. gloves. Norman, your points are weak at best. Hatton simply did not deserve a 50/50 split. And Pacquiao weighed in at 144lbs. against Cotto, so either way somebody was going to get screwed. And since welterweight is ...
