This paper discusses the distributive consequences of trade flows in developing countries (DCs). On the theoretical side, we argue that the interplays between international openness and technology adoption may constitute an important mechanism leading to a possible increase of income differentials in the liberalizing DCs, trough skill enhancing trade. We use a dynamic specification to estimate the impact of trade on within-country income inequality in a sample of 70 DCs over the 1980-1999 period. Our results suggest that total aggregate trade flows are weakly related with income inequality. However, once we disaggregate total ...

Without international trade, nations would be limited to the goods and services produced within their own borders. International trade is in principle not different from domestic trade as the motivation and the behavior of parties involved in a trade do not change fundamentally regardless of whether trade is across a border or not. The main difference is that international trade is typically more costly than domestic trade. The reason is that a border typically imposes additional costs ...
Responding To Globalization: India?S Answer
Broadly speaking, the term ‘globalization’ means integration of economies and societies through cross country flows of information, ideas, technologies, goods, services, capital, finance and people. Cross border integration can have several dimensions – cultural, social, political and economic. In fact, some people fear cultural and social integration even more than economic integration. The fear of "cultural hegemony" haunts many. Limiting ourselves to economic integration, one can see this happen through the three channels of (a) trade in goods and services, (b) movement of capital and (c) flow of finance. One of the benefits of international trade is that countries can use their resources - land, labor, capital and entrepreneurship - in a manner that promotes efficiency. Countries can limit themselves to those products and services that they can produce more efficiently, and trade them for other goods and services that they do not produce. This results in wealthier countries and a wealthier world. Through specialization and trade, a larger variety of goods are available for consumers to choose from, and prices are more affordable. Trade and Income Distribution: The Debate and New Evidence
For most of the past 25 years, the distribution of wages in the United States has grown more unequal. The rising inequality is closely linked to educational and skill levels. Thus, the ratio of wages for workers with at least some college education to those for workers with high school education or less rose by 18 percent from 1973 to 1993 (Figure 1). Rising wage inequality might arguably not be a problem if it stemmed from a more rapid increase at the top of the distribution accompanied by some rise at the bottom as well. Looking at the three elements you have selected two (1 and 2) are applicable to all firms regardless of business or industry and they imply that the actions taken are going to be relevent to the specific needs of the organisation.
