In bear markets like this one, it's easy to bury your head in the sand and ignore the damage. Still, there's no time like the present for investors to school themselves on how to fix up a battered portfolio that can emerge stronger when markets finally get back to normal. Alternative investments, a wide-ranging class of assets that include everything from commodities and annuities to real estate, can be part of that strategy, says Larry Swedroe, a director at Buckingham Asset management and an investment author. His latest book, The Only Guide to Alternative Investments You'll Ever Need , with Jared Kizer, is a ...

If so, a relatively new tool on the market may help you meet your financial goals. It’s called an Equity Indexed Annuity (EIA) and it’s gaining in popularity. Equity indexed annuities take advantage of the security of annuities and potential market gains. They’ve gained media attention as an insurance product that can profit from gains in market indexes. According to USA Today, currently 41 companies offer a total of 131 equity indexed annuities. The combination ... market research, surveys and trends
The Complete Guide to Currency Trading & Investing: How to Earn ...
While I liked the general information in the book, I found it very basic regarding Forex. [...] A fair to good basic discussion of Forex, but lacking in usable information to actually trade with. The discussions of technical indicators is very weak. On page 167 it discusses the “Head and Shoulders Pattern.” It defines the left shoulder, the right shoulder, and the Head, but does not say what the pattern means or what a trader could use the pattern for. I would not recommend the book to anyone who is seriously trading the Forex market. Rating: 3 / 5 Both FOREX and investing are very deep subjects. I anticipated ... market research, surveys and trends

Is Your Target Date Fund Missing the Mark? - CBS MoneyWatch.com
Target date funds have been getting a lot of attention lately, and not all of it is good.  Part of the attention stems from their growing popularity. There were just 29 target date funds with total assets of $14 billion in 2002; today there are nearly 350, holding $150 billion in assets. And part of the attention is from legislators and regulators who wonder if these funds merit a bit more scrutiny. Some of them do. Beginner Investing: 401k Proceeds Investing, 401k funds, money ...
I am 62 years old and about to retire. In addition to my Social Security and company retirement, which I intend to take as an annuity, I have $100,000 in a 401(k) and about $60,000 in two CDs. My question concerns what to do with the money in the 401(k), which currently is making me about $250 a month in interest. My spouse wants me to cash in the 401(k) and put it into a money market account - or apply it (sans the roughly 30 percent tax hit we would take) to a new residence we have been thinking about upgrading to. I think a different type of rollover would be best, but as to which kind I don't have a clue. What do you ...
