BP Disaster Vexes Socially Responsible Investors
Investors may be indirectly holding shares of an outfit connected to the worst oil spill in U.S. history even if they purposely chose equity funds that specialize in companies friendly to the environment. Until May 31, a major holding in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes was BP ( BP ), the owner of the well spewing 12,000 to 19,000 barrels of oil per day into the Gulf of Mexico. Obviously, the future of this business is in question as the BP Deepwater Horizon debacle continues to leak crude into the Gulf of Mexico at an alarming rate.  This would not be such a huge headwind if DryShips had not already committed to ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Obama BP Speech & Reaction
"Already, this oil spill is the worst environmental disaster America has ever faced. And unlike an earthquake or a hurricane, it’s not a single event that does its damage in a matter of minutes or days. The millions of gallons of oil that have spilled into the Gulf of Mexico are more like an epidemic, one that we will be fighting for months and even years." Let’s hope the fighting it for years is just hyperbole, the relief wells should be finished by mid-July, which will shut down the ongoing leak. However, he is right that the impact of this will last for years in terms of the clean up and for the ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
