Child Trust Funds (CTFs) were introduced in 2005 by the Government to encourage parents to save towards their children’s future. Any child who qualifies for Child Benefit born since 1st September 2002 is eligible for a CTF. In simple terms, they are a long-term savings and investment account for the benefit of children. The account belongs to the child but they cannot access the money until their 18th birthday. Any capital gains or income within the CTF is free of tax for both the parent and child.
