Essex Regional Retirement Board, Danvers, Mass., issued an RFP for a hedge fund-of-funds manager to run about $13.5 million, said Lilli Gilligan, COO for the $300 million fund. Funding will come reducing the $23 million allocation to a hedge fund of funds run by the Massachusetts Pension Reserves Investment Trust. Were not happy with performance, Ms. Gilligan said. The new manager will compete with the PRIT fund, and after one year, whichever firm has the better performance will run the entire $23 million hedge fund-of-funds allocation, she said. Segal Advisors is assisting. The RFP is available on Segals website at ...
Ironically, the technology that could put a rapid end to civilization can also be its salvation. The growing global population, yearning for better living conditions and a cleaner environment, will require even faster-growing supplies of healthful food, fresh water for consumption and irrigation, fuel for transportation, and — especially — electricity that would sustain light, heat, air conditioning, manufacturing, computers, and a myriad of other amenities that have come to be seen as necessities in industrial nations or those that seek to modernize their way of life. An ingredient common to maintaining or improving all of the ...

Fidelity delivers a white paper and a warning to RIAs regarding ...
As the advisor world tries to cope with the looming prospect of new cost-basis rules, Fidelity Investments is warning that advisors using outside portfolio software and/or multiple custodians could face serious challenges. The new rule, which goes into effect Jan. 1, requires custodians to report the cost basis for stocks sold in all their accounts to the IRS . The difficulty, which is minor or major depending on who you listen to, comes if an advisor depends on portfolio management software and uses multiple custodians to develop cost-basis information that a client then sends to the IRS . Charles Schwab & Co. kicked things off last November as a means to build assets in its recently launched family of exchange-traded funds. A few months later, Fidelity Brokerage Services rolled out a more expansive plan offering free trading of 25 iShares portfolios and its own ETF tracking the Nasdaq Composite Index. Both brokerages were later upstaged by Vanguard Brokerage ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

The DAS Technology Support Center has provided video and audio conferencing services to state agencies and other public entities since fall 2006. During the 2009 legislative session, the Legislature directed DAS to discontinue these services. DAS immediately assembled a project team to tackle the mandate and examine its two key parts: DAS will continue to provide these services until further notice and will stay in touch with its customers who rely on video, audio and Web conferencing. For more information including the results of a recent survey about agencies’ conferencing needs, visit the project Web page.   technology research, surveys study and trend statistics

You’re a high school student, with a life provided for and managed by to date your parents. You have to wait until you have to run your own life and live and die by your own decisions before you’re entitled to have an opinion on success/failure of adults. For you, right now, success is measured by academic grades, which is an artificial system of measuring “success.” How’s your GPA? Sitting on a 4.0, are we? College scholarships? Full ride to a top 10 school? You may want to replace the word ‘failures in life’ in your question with something like ‘homeless or in ...

Do reports of hauntings exist in atheist or non-Christian countries to such an extent as they do in America? I'm fascinated by the myriad of documentaries that appear every week regarding hauntings/ghosts/etc. Do atheistic countries with no particular spiritual influence (i.e. Sweden vs. China) have such high reports of hauntings or reports of ghosts? What about Islamic cultures? Once heard a story about Intel executives going through some kind of management/communication training in which they were encouraged to swear (yell profanities) at one another... i am sure this is an easy problem: i have a problem on XP ...
