micro presentation:: Best of Luck: 5. PSU disinvestment.
IN the last decade, many steps have been taken to disinvest public sector enterprises in India, both in terms of listing central public sector enterprises companies on the stock market and selling controlling interest. After a lull, disinvestment is now back on the UPA governmentÂ’s agenda. There appears to be a political consensus on disinvestment in non- navratna profit making enterprises, and in chronic loss making PSUs. Hence, it is important to revisit the issues of rationale and mechanisms of disinvestment. In this paper we argue that the main rationale for disinvestment is the ... market research, surveys and trends

it is estimated that the total market value of PSU companies stands at around Rs25 lakh crores. Of this, if only 10 percent disinvestment takes place, it would amount to a release of Rs2.5 lakh crores. IS THE recession over? A majority seems to think so. However problems still persist. The lost jobs haven't come back neither have the salary increments shown up. Those who lost their jobs are still in the lurch, looking out for new ones. The progress of large developing countries has fuelled the muse of socio-economic observers for a decade hitherto. The world sotto voce acquiesced to the might of North America and the European Union until China and India jolted this somnambulism. The population of the world is more than six billion, of which less than one billion is in the industrialized countries; more than five billion is in the developing countries and more than 2.5 billion is in Brazil, South Africa, India and China or the BASIC nations (Nayyar, 2008). China and India will continue to draw more capital: Lucian Wu
First of all let's talk a little bit about China because we have had some commentators especially come in and say that they believe that the monetary tightening cycle in China if you will has now come to an end and, therefore, stocks there may be bottoming out. Do you agree? Most analysts are expecting close to 10% growth over the first quarter. We are seeing signs that there is going to be a soft landing and the government seems to have done a reasonably good job in trying to hold back growth, given the kind of inflationary pressure and the decision to allow the renminbi to float does help a little bit in terms of the ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Public offers for Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) and Coal India Ltd. in the near future will go a long way in determining the success of the Indian government's efforts to raise billions of dollars through disinvestment this fiscal year. Various news organizations reported this week that Coal India would try to raise US$2.9 billion in a share sale in August. Preparations were already under way for a US$3.6 billion SAIL issue.
