A packet of materials (the “case”) is distributed to each student in the class, and it’s the student’s responsibility to analyze the facts contained in the case, answer questions, and make recommendations. In the process, you learn a great deal about how to think about subjects like business strategy, management decision-making, and business finance. The PMBA Community has tested several different approaches to conducting case studies over the past few years, and frankly, each attempt ...

Fail-Safe Investing? Harry Browne's Permanent Portfolio
I think one subject that should be explored more is context. I’m sure JD is getting tons of requests about how to invest without losing money right now. Of course he is—the stock market just tanked and lots of people lost lots of money. But what will happen with these very same people when stocks start to shoot up on the next bubble? Will they remember these lessons or hop on the next trend that comes along, like the Internet, like real estate? This is a great time to educate these people, and hopefully when the next hot idea comes along, they’ll remember how they felt when their stocks dropped in 2008. Reducing risk ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Philip Greenspun's Weblog » Stocks versus Bonds
A few excerpts:  “Starting any time we choose from 1979 through 2008, the investor in 20-year Treasuries (consistently rolling to the nearest 20-year bond and reinvesting income) beats the S&P 500 investor. In fact, from the end of February 1969 through February 2009, despite the grim bond collapse of the 1970s, our 20-year bond investors win by a nose.” Arnott goes back to 1801 and notes that stocks do tend to return 2.5 percent per year more than bonds. Unfortunately this is of little comfort to a stock investor who buys in at a peak. The U.S. stock market has spent 173 out of 207 years below a previous peak. ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
A 'permanent' solution to your investment worries
he stock market despair of 2008 gave way to the euphoria of 2009, which in turn led to the uncertainty of 2010. God knows what 2011 will bring to investors. Sick of worrying about what market ups and downs mean to your portfolio? Then have a look at Harry Browne’s “permanent portfolio,” a decades-old approach to investing that directly addresses today’s uncertainties. Mr. Browne, an investment adviser, author and onetime Libertarian Party presidential candidate, died in 2006. But the permanent portfolio continues to generate active discussion online by people who like the idea of owning a fortress-like ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

from moviegoers, leaving many in a limbolike state of confusion. Where to turn for answers? I'm looking for financial books that will teach me accounting and other financial aspects. After reading Rich Dad Poor Dad, I've realized my need to gain financial knowledge. I'm looking for a book not like Rich Dad poor Dad, which doesn't really teach you anything financial but instead makes you think outside the box (says you should do this or that but doesnt say how). My questions are: 1) Where should I start ...
