Gold Investing for Retirement

gold investing for retirement special research report Photo by
As baby boomers in the home stretch towards retirement, we have two major concerns about our retirement investing.  The first is recovering from the severe damage our retirement nest eggs suffered from the recession and market downturn that began in 2008.   The second concern is preparing for the threat of inflation that is likely to descend on our economy because of massive government budget deficits. In more normal economic times, financial planners would tell us that stocks and equity-centric mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) should provide long term inflation protection.  I see two problems with that theory now. ...
loss. Insurance is defined as the equitable transfer of the risk of a loss, from one entity to another, in exchange for payment. An insurer is a company selling the insurance; an insured or policyholder is the person or entity buying the insurance policy. The insurance rate is a factor used to determine the amount to be charged for a certain amount of insurance coverage, called the premium . Risk management , the practice of appraising and controlling risk, has evolved as a discrete field of study and practice. The transaction involves the insured assuming a guaranteed and known relatively small loss in the form of payment to ...

and precious metals are favorites as an inflation hedge. On the other hand, gold is notorious for being volatile and strangely unpredictable. Let’s examine what happened with gold in 2008, when inflation fears seemed to reach their peak. For the year that ended June 2008, the U.S. wholesale inflation rate increased to 9.2% . This was the fastest rate of increase in inflation since 1981. Consumer prices rose by 0.8% in July 2008. This run-up in consumer prices finished off a 12 month CPI inflation rate of 5.6%, which was the largest twelve month gain since 1991. While inflation was peaking, average weekly earnings fell 3.1%, industry trends, business articles and survey research
Buffett Finally Admits the Dollar is Doomed! | LIVING OFF ...
In his NYT op-ed piece titled “The Greenback Effect” he admited that the government is setting us up for massive inflation and destruction of the US Dollar. This fiscal year, though, the deficit will rise to about 13 percent of G.D.P., more than twice the non-wartime record. In dollars, that equates to a staggering $1.8 trillion. During this fiscal year, [our net debt] will increase more than one percentage point per month, climbing to about 56 percent of G.D.P. from 41 percent. Admittedly, other countries, like Japan and Italy, have far higher ratios and no one can know the precise level of net debt to G.D.P. at which industry trends, business articles and survey research

Research Roundup: Investing Ideas and Analysis for the Week of July 6
Since the “flash crash” low of May 6, 2010, we have had a Dow Theory “sell signal” (5-20-10), a sell-signal from my proprietary intermediate trading indicator (the first since December 2007), the monthly stochastic-indicator has turned negative, a downside violation of the 12-month moving average has occurred, most indices have broken below spread triple-bottoms in the charts, and last week we got a “death cross” when the S&P 500’s 50-day moving average (DMA) crossed below its 200-DMA. All of this suggests that a cautious stance on stocks is warranted. Indeed, of all the vehicles I ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Converting part of 401K to Gold
I currently have a 401K plan. I would like to convert some of this to Gold coins. Can this be done without incurring a penalty? How would I go about this? Most likely not. If you are no longer employed by the company where your 401(k) is located, you can roll the assets to a roll-over IRA, and as part of that invest in gold futures or gold coins - but only if they are US coins. You are not allowed to invest in collectibles, including other types of coins. If you are still employed where the 401(k) is located, it is highly unlikely that your 401(k) plan allows you to do an in-service rollover, but you could always ask your ...
