Monty Agarwal writes: Hedge funds and the managers who run them have been getting a lot of publicity lately — and not of the flattering kind. We have massive Ponzi schemes, equally massive losses and outsized systemic risks that are enough to frighten away even the hardiest of investors. So before you leap, you need to look — carefully and deeply into this industry. Barel Karsan: A Public Hedge Fund
Hedge fund investing is generally restricted to investors meeting minimum asset levels (i.e. rich people, the thinking being that they'll be all right if they lose a bunch of money) or those making large minimum investments (the thinking being that investors who plunk down $150K on an investment will do their due diligence, unlike the typical retail investor). But for all intents and purposes, it appears that Quest Capital ( QCC ) is trying to convert itself into a quasi hedge fund! Long-time readers of this site will already know that Quest Capital has been a stock favourite of ours for a while now. In a move to increase ... market research, surveys and trends

The long and short of real estate investing
e’re starting to see stories about a softening real estate market in Canada. Listings are up, sales are down, and even the always bullish industry executives are predicting lower prices in the coming year. It reminded me of a quote I saw recently: “Real estate is the drunk driver on the economic highway.” This statement, attributed to Tom Barrack, the CEO of real estate investor Colony Capital, speaks to the fact that residential real estate can be volatile. Yet that same volatility highlights why it can be fertile ground for a disciplined, patient investor. There are a number of reasons for this. First off, ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

This is a specific request for additional research by pafalafa-ga. This researcher is looking into books related to mutual fund market timing. The researcher has come across a good deal of newspaper and magazine articles and other materials -- many of them from the 1990's and earlier -- that discuss this topic as well. I am requesting an answer specifically from pafalafa-ga that would identify magazine and newspaper articles that discussed mutual fund market timing as an investment technique. I am only looking for articles that were published prior to September 2003, and the earlier back in time the better. Thank ...
