highest paying blue collar jobs special research report Photo by images.forbes.com
It's hard to believe, but nearly 20 percent of U.S. employers say they're having a tough time filling job openings, according to Manpower's 2009 talent shortage survey. (That figure, which is less than half of what it was in 2006, should rise again as the economy recovers.) The list of positions that are the hardest to fill can help serve as a guide for some of the best job opportunities in the future. Although engineers and nurses lead Manpower's list of the 10 most in-demand jobs in the United States, a large portion of the hard-to-fill positions are blue-collar jobs. WNYC - Books: Class Action: The Story of Lois Jenson and the ...
It snowed all day and night on Sunday. By dawn, three feet of snow covered the Mesabi Iron Range. Lois Jenson warmed her delicate hands on her coffee mug as she looked out the window of her small house in Virginia, Minnesota. She glanced at the clock on the kitchen wall: 6:15. She drank the last of her coffee and set the mug in the sink. It was Monday, March 25, 1975, Lois's first day of work at Eveleth Mines. If she didn't want to be late, she had better give herself some extra time. The day shift started at 7:00 a.m. In this weather, it would not be a twenty-minute trip. Luckily, her turquoise Ford Maverick ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Total private sector wages fall 0.4% in 2009
According to the Ministry of Manpower's (MOM) latest publication "Report on Wages 2009," the decline followed a 4.2 per cent increase in wages in 2008. The decline was due to a drop of 14 per cent in bonus paid out. The bonus amount paid out fell to 1.99 months last year from 2.31 months in 2008. Dr Randolph Tan, head, Business Analytics Programme, SIM University, said: "Every time you have a recession, basically you have a weakening in labour market demand. So, it's quite natural that the wages will come down. "I think what is interesting is that the proportion of the decline is really not as ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
3rd District heats up
National Republicans and Democrats are closely watching southwest Washington's 3rd Congressional District this year, thinking U.S. Rep. Brian Baird's decision to retire at the end of the year instantly turned a Democratic-leaning seat into one that either party might capture. Six candidates are running during a year of tea-party tempests, economic anxiety and double-digit jobless rates in most of the district. This is giving Republicans and outsiders a certain appeal while the Democrat-run Congress and administration try to coax the economy out of a recession, while trillions of dollars of government debt piles up ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

If the free market says blue collar jobs should move overseas, why ...
Liberals can't seem to understand that our economy is shifting to white collar. Why they can't grasp that concept is a mystery that Conservatives have been trying to figure out for many years now. Well in a Free Market economy the Big Corporations do not care about you, me, or anyone in America. They don't think about Americas best interest they think about their own best interest. If that is to ship jobs overseas to save money then that is what they will do. Should stop being naive and thinking that if you let these companies do their own thing and go unchecked that they will do the right thing. They ...
