Banks are the main facilitators of funding through the provision of credit , although private equity , mutual funds , hedge funds , and other organizations have become important as they invest in various forms of debt. Financial assets , known as investments, are financially managed with careful attention to financial risk management to control financial risk .
On Biglari Holdings and Type X Behavior
” about Steak n Shake, Sardar Biglari, and what it takes for a restaurant to succeed. Anyone who follows BH already knows what I’m talking about, but below I’ve included my thoughts on the situation from my most recent letter to investors: * * * Most ... market research, surveys and trends

The investment of corporate cash doesn't always get the attention it deserves. Here are some basics on how to maximize return with little risk. Insiders Are Buying Calumet Specialty Products. Should You?
One of my all-time favorite investment quotes comes from famed Fidelity Magellan fund manager Peter Lynch: "Insiders might sell their shares for any number of reasons, but they buy them for only one: They think the price will rise." Insider buying is an indicator you can use to screen for ideas. The most meaningful signal is when an executive or director buys shares on the open market just like you or me. It's too easy for management to build a sizable stake in the company by simply exercising stock options. On the other hand, when they open up their wallet and pay cold, hard cash for shares, that's important ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Analyst to Apple: Time to stop hoarding cash
to do something with its colossal cash reserve that's better for shareholders. In an open letter to Apple's board of directors, Sanford C. Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi urged Apple to either return some cash to shareholders as a dividend or increase the value of Apple stock by repurchasing its own shares. "In our conversations with shareholders, one common source of frustration--which is now bordering on exasperation--has been Apple's burgeoning cash balance and the company's unwillingness to return it to shareholders or discuss its vision for how the company plans to use it. Which is the better way to return cash to shareholders? Divadends ...
IMHO, it depends on the industry that you are in ... if the company has accumulated cash through normal business operations and the cash flow is predictable, dividends is a better option, as it rewards shareholders in a steady and predictable way. Dividend cuts give a very negative signal, it is better to be conservative in dividend payouts.
