He stressed "clean energy," saying its development and use was one of the most pressing challenges of our time: We can't afford to tackle these issues in isolation. How much political pressure the Obama administration ...

5 Responses to “Border Guide: A Canadian’s Guide to Living, Working, and Investing in the United States” There are three million Canadian citizens living in the United States (often traveling back and forth across the border), with almost two millions Canadians visiting Florida each years. Many Canadians and Americans incorrectly assume that the laws governing investment, taxation, and immigration are the same in both countries. They are not. How Canada can cash in on the US economic malaise
Non-financial institutions in the United States have almost $2 trillion US in cash on their balance sheets but have no desire to invest there. Luring some of that money to Canada will help further modernize our economy, create jobs, generate more tax revenue and raise our standard of living. This window of opportunity won't be open for long, so Ottawa and the provinces should launch a major marketing effort now to turn American apprehension into economic gain for Canada. What does Canada have to sell to those holding the $2-trillion US purse strings? A comparative advertising strategy would focus the minds of ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

READING between the lines, BHP intended to take its $US38.56 billion ($43bn) offer for Canada's Potash Corp direct to the shareholders. That is, if the Potash board rejected its court-approved plan of arrangement. The alternative was to negotiate a price that the board would agree to recommend. But BHP Billiton may well have decided that the hostile reaction of Potash meant that, even if it could persuade the board to change its initial stance and negotiate, Potash would have been likely to demand a price far above that which BHP would be prepared to offer and there would be little, if any prospect of being able to ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

S&P 500 for Companies Using Loonies | Ask MetaFilter
While I'm not an investing genius or anything, I know little bits here and there. I have a friend who's coming into a little money soon, and is wanting to invest for his retirement. He's asking for advice on what he should do. Normally, I tell people in his position to sock the thing in some form of low-fee S&P 500 Fund, as the returns on it usually beat any other fund or single stock in any given year. (I know, I know, it loses sometimes as well.) While the investment isn't fool-proof, it's probably the best option I know of for a "set-it-and-forget-it" style investor, which is exactly what this guy ...
