Futures studies (colloquially called "futures" by many of the field's practitioners) seeks to understand what is likely to continue, what is likely to change, and what is novel. Part of the discipline thus seeks a systematic and pattern-based understanding of past and present, and to determine the likelihood of future events and trends. Unlike Science where a narrower, more specified system is studied, futurology studies a much bigger and more complex world system. The methodology and knowledge are much less proven as compared to natural science or even social science like sociology , economics and political science .
Problems of Investing in Asia, ETF's May Not be Winners for ...
This week we turn our eyes to Asia as my friend Louis Gave of GaveKal gives us a very thought-provoking piece on the problems of investing in Asia, with a focus on China. While there are real opportunities, Louis also sees some speed bumps. Those Asian ETFs may not be the winners a lot of people think for structural reasons. I was to thank the team at GaveKal for letting me reproduce their research as typically it is only available to their clients who pay a rather hefty sum. This has been a productive weekend book writing wise. I am down to finishing 2 chapters which are mostly written and two long flights to ... market research, surveys and trends

Is there ever any sort of healthy co-existence between making money and preserving the environment? It is true that everybody always cares about money, but it does not mean that the environment has to suffer. Oftentimes, unfortunately it seems to be the case, but it does not have to be that way. One is not mutually exclusive of the other. My point of contention is that we can combine the economic prosperity with the betterment of our environment? I am going to illustrate my point with two examples that are very concurrent and relevant to understanding the current state of affairs in the U.S and learning from the mistakes of the ... market research, surveys and trends

Jeff Bezos Investing in Google: Luck or Foresight? | Growthink
After my column a few months ago regarding Jeff Bezos' now famous (and incredibly profitable) investment into Google in 1998, I was deluged with comments and opinions on this question - was his investment luck or was it foresight? The backdrop again: In 1998 when Larry Page's and Sergey Brin's Google offices were a Menlo Park, California garage - Bezos invested $250,000 of personal funds into the fledgling search engine. When Google went public in 2004, that $250,000 investment translated into 3.3 million shares of Google stock. At Google's IPO that represented a stock share position worth over $280 million! ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

"Teach Your Children Well"
I was listening to the radio the other day - tuned in to one of those "Oldies but Goodies" stations - when they started playing the song, "Teach Your Children" by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. There are several verses in the song that go, "Teach your children well" . . . and it continues, "Teach your children what you believe in. Make a world that we can live in." As I continued on my way to work, the lyrics of this song kept repeating in my mind and I couldn't help but think back to a recent business summit that I had attended in Boise on early leaning and the importance of early ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Chinese Show Europeans a New Face
LONDON, Jul 21, 2010 (IPS) - German Chancellor Angel Merkel's weekend visit to China has put a positive spin on the increasingly complex economic relations between China and the European Union, but the flurry of deals signed has not disguised the fact that Beijing faces challenges over its EU policies both at home and abroad. Beijing's stated commitment to continue investing in euro-denominated assets is being challenged by a vocal lobby of domestic critics who clamour China's piles of foreign exchange reserves should be put to better use. And the government's ambitions to nurture national ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Google Invests In Geothermal Energy Technology
In the continuing effort to develop electricity from renewable energy cheaper than from coal, Google (NASDAQ: GOOG), through its philanthropic arm, announced $10.25 million in investments in a breakthrough energy technology called Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS). Today's announcement also includes funding for research on next-generation geothermal resource mapping, EGS information tools, and a policy agenda for geothermal energy. EGS expands the potential of geothermal energy by orders of magnitude. The traditional geothermal approach relies on finding naturally occurring pockets of steam and hot water. The EGS ...
Does anyone have an Idea of what stocks will skyrocket? - Yahoo ...
Are there any companies out there that I can buy low, but have like a niche in the market so that it might become very important and thus have their stocks skyrocket?? I don't want a huge bluechip stock where I can't buy low and sell high thanks! I understand that it's more complicated than I might seem, but I am wondering what recommendations you all might have.
