Investing in women smallholder farmers is the key to halving hunger in Africa and results in twice as much growth as investment in any other sector[i], a new ActionAid report reveals. Less than one per cent of the agriculture budget is targeted at women in the three countries researched by ActionAid – Malawi, Kenya and Uganda - despite women's central contribution to the production of food, reports Fertile Ground. And international donors say that as little as ten per cent of their aid to agriculture goes to women farmers. "An astonishing, three-quarters of Africa's malnourished children can be found on ...
Rahim Kanani: Investing in Women and Girls: A Focus on Health ...
French poet Victor Hugo once remarked that "there's nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come." Today, that idea is unmistakable: addressing the political, economic, social, and cultural challenges facing women and girls worldwide. It's no coincidence then that in less than two weeks -- strategically ahead of the G8 Summit to be held in Canada -- the world's leading voices on advancing the lives and livelihoods of women and girls around the world will come together in Washington, D.C., for the 2010 Women Deliver Summit . And if the list of featured speakers , plenary sessions , and ... market research, surveys and trends
Investing in women: a human rights approach « penelope m. c.
At Women Deliver, a message is extolled throughout the dozens of sessions, plenaries, panels and press conferences: “Invest in women and girls, it pays.” This simple message, however, has several layers of subtext. Many of the conference’s attendees are emphasizing the broader concepts that underpin it – one of the great takeaways of this conference, at least in my mind, is that it will take more than an additional $12 billion to ensure that women and girls around the world are able to fully realize their rights. Among these concepts, is the notion that women’s s rights are, first and foremost, ... market research, surveys and trends

Organizing for America | Women for Obama Issues
More than 19 million women are uninsured in this country, and women are more likely than men to delay or not get medical care because of high costs. Barack Obama and Joe Biden are committed to ensuring that all Americans have health care coverage by the end of his first term in office. The Obama-Biden plan will encourage insurers and providers to adopt electronic claims systems, electronic medical records, and patient safety reporting systems. These improvements will reduce administrative costs and health care inefficiencies such as duplicative testing and medical errors, which in turn will reduce costly medical malpractice ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
The Week In Private Equity: Back When Groovin' Was Groovin'
The revelation of Henry Kravis’ salary was almost as hotly anticipated in financial journalist circles as learning where LeBron James was going to land was elsewhere. So much so that we think Kravis should have arranged a one-hour special on a financial TV channel to unveil his compensation details, offering Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.’s limited partners a chance to buy ads, with proceeds going, perhaps, to pay down portfolio company debt. But KKR took a quieter route, filing an updated S-1 with the Securities and Exchange Commission with the juicy details . Turns out he and cousin George Roberts each earned ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

What is the best way to start a Word of Mouth Campaign for a ...
Hello, my company Investing In Women awards micro-grants to business owners in the USA. We awarded our first micro-grant in November, that was funded mostly by me. Now we have a new finalist and a new process where we will be raising money for the grant through a portion of advertising and membership sales. People can also donate directly to the grant. I have had some good PR and people are sharing the site, but it is not enough. We need a really good Word of Mouth campaign that will continue to spread. What can I do that will cause people to share the grant with others? posted 6 months ago in Viral Marketing | Closed Share This
How does the clinton global initiative summit add Gender issues ...
Sept. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Even before former President Bill Clinton secured the release of two U.S. journalists from North Korea this summer, his Clinton Global Initiative had put him back on the world stage as a major player in philanthropy. The initiative brings together people with clout and money to develop solutions for world problems. Since 2005, its four- day annual summits have helped create $46 billion in funding commitments for causes ranging from education and environmental assistance to climate change and health care. This year’s meeting, which begins today at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers, has drawn political ...
