The nationwide buying club, with headquarters in Merrillville, Indiana, promises members access to 700 brand-name manufacturers of home goods and the opportunity to buy merchandise with no “hidden store markups and middlemen costs.” Ads invite you to an open house, where you’ll see “confidential” wholesale prices. “We can’t show you the brand names and we certainly can’t show you the prices,” read one ad. What it also doesn’t show you is DirectBuy’s steep membership cost. The Real Deal To evaluate the pitch, we went undercover at two DirectBuy franchises in New York. Both gave us the same hard sell and offers of up to 70 percent ...
Finfinne Diaries 3: Construction and Inflation — How to Demystify ...
was the amount of construction. I have never in my life seen so many building projects going on all at once. Concrete and scaffolding were everywhere in Ethiopia’s capital city Addis Ababa and in the other cities that I visited — Jimma, Adama, Dire Dawa, and Harar. In Addis’s new suburban sprawl, I drove through almost a whole mile of recently completed but still empty apartment complexes only to discover yet another mile of halfway built complexes further down the road (a road which was also under construction.) And in Harar, I saw a lone Chinese engineer directing a group of Ethiopian laborers in the laying ... market research, surveys and trends

The mobile elbow results from using the mobile for long hours. Called the ‘cubital tunnel syndrome’, it is also called cell phone elbow’. The problem occurs when the ulnar nerve, which runs across the elbow, down to the ring and little fingers, gets over-stretched and blood supply is restricted, sparked by holding a phone to the ear for long periods. International Socialist Review
LAST JULY, tens of thousands of students from Tehran University battled police and vigilantes in a series of mass demonstrations that lasted for six days. The unrest began in response to the passage of new restrictive press laws by Iran’s conservative-dominated parliament and the closing of Salaam, a newspaper associated with the reform forces behind President Mohammad Khatami. The protests broke out of the campus and onto city streets before the government brought them under control—helped by the fact that Khatami himself, fearful that the protests might get beyond his control, withdrew support for them. Mexico 2010: Enter the Detonators
In recent weeks, Mexican television viewers have been deluged with an advertisement in power rotation on all networks, including cable channels, from an apparently wealthy consortium called “Iniciativa México,” or, the Mexico Initiative. The ad features head coach Javier Aguirre of Mexico’s national soccer team (the original ad appears here ) strutting around the Mexico City monument known as the Angel of Independence, wearing a suit jacket and unbuttoned white shirt, noting that 2010 marks the bicentennial of Mexican independence and the centennial of the revolution of 1910. And, he encourages the people of the nation not to ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Suggested gifts for bumming around Europe | Ask MetaFilter
A friend of mine is off to Europe for a month this fall and as she happens to have a birthday between now and then, I figured it would be a good idea to give her presents that might be useful on such a trip. Not having done it myself, though, I'm not sure what would be most useful. Her itinerary takes her through Amsterdam, Paris, Austria, Italy and the south of France. I'm sure she's got all the usual travel paraphernalia, so I'm looking for something more Eurocentric, but not as dull as, say, a map or Frommer's or something. What about a some kind of notebook for recording her journey? Is there a way ...
Is a logo strictly necessary for a brand? | LinkedIn Answers ...
I would say yes. If you don't have logo there will be ocasions where you will need one and if you don't have one and choose to use, say just the name of your company. Many will take that to be your logo anyway. So better to have that done with some thought behind it. posted August 16, 2008 I strongly feel Logo is must for effective communication, Its not just an identity but a visual impact that has long lasting effect. Logo with some theme would be great and communicating and promoting with the logo and that to with the vision would have good and big mass appeal. posted August 16, 2008 Guy Great question.
