Bert White, a retired Methodist minister who is now a lecturer at BU, developed the conference. Zvi Bodie and Larry Kotlikoff, both BU senior faculty members with a keen interest in applying science to personal finance, provided insightful guidance. I'll try to be as concise as possible.  I own two properties; one is a condo, the other is a single family home.  The condo is my primary residence. Between my 1st mortgage and HELOC on the condo, my equity is all eaten up.  If I sold it today, I'd probably break even.  I'm okay with that as long as I'm not "upside down" on it.  I am looking to buy another property later this year that will serve as my primary residence. It has since grown significantly and I would like to take a portion to put a principal payment on my mortgage (I am refinancing for a lower rate). Is there any way to do this without having to pay penalties? I also have a Roth IRA. Could I distribute from it without penalties?
