An offshore portfolio bond is a tax efficient wrapper that can hold a variety of assets like stocks and shares or mutual funds. This is a bond that adds the legal and tax shield of a life insurance policy to an investment portfolio. It is structured to simply combine a life insurance policy and a portfolio to create a wrapper that investors can buy, manage and sell their assets through. The British (or onshore) equivalent is called an ‘open ended investment company’ (OEIC). Although many OEICs are shared, some are private to an individual and thus a good comparison to Offshore Portfolio Bonds. The specific benefits of investing ...
stake in the company (i.e., they are owners), whereas bondholders have a creditor stake in the company (i.e., they are lenders). Another difference is that bonds usually have a defined term, or maturity, after which the bond is redeemed, whereas stocks may be outstanding indefinitely. An exception is a consol bond , which is a perpetuity (i.e., bond with no maturity).

detail the gulf between the Old Man’s bland assurances that such things could never happen here and what an oil spill of BP magnitude in the Gulf of St. Lawrence (centred theoretically on Old Harry or a field near it) might look like. The Premier focused his attention on current production wells which are a couple of hundred miles offshore. But there is another offshore that isn’t quite so far away. Bear in mind this isn’t based on an analysis of currents and so forth.  it’s just what you get if you lay a map of the BP spill in the Gulf of Mexico in another oil rich Gulf. Four Beaten-Up Stocks Trading Below Book Value: John Dorfman
June 7 (Bloomberg) -- One of the most old-fashioned ways of measuring value is one of my favorites. I like to search for stocks selling for less than book value. Today, with fear outweighing greed on most investors’ mental scales, there are quite a few candidates. Of approximately 1,500 U.S. stocks with a market value of $1 billion or more, 117 were selling below book value last week. Two of them I like are Loews Corp. and WellPoint Inc. A couple of smaller companies worth considering are Bristow Group Inc. and Radian Group Inc. Book value is corporate net worth -- a company’s assets minus its liabilities. One example put forth is the ease with which nonresident aliens may do business through limited liability companies (LLCs) domiciled in the United States, in comparative anonymity.  An October 2000 report by the General Accounting Office gives insight into the use of corporations as conduits for illicit funds.
