Stocks dropped at the open & selling pressure is continuing. Dow is down 135, decliners over advancers 3-1 & NAZ fell 31. Banks also sold off, taking the Financial Index solidly below 200. Another way to look at it is that it has been going nowhere for a year. S&P 500 FINANCIALS INDEX The MLP index dropped 2½ to the 331s while the REIT index fell 3½ to the 205s. But junk bond funds were generally stronger. The VIX, volatility index, went up 1¾ to the 23s, remaining in its recent low region. Treasuries were very strong, taking them to 18 month highs. The yield on the 10-year Treasury bond plunged 9 basis ...
Gann Square of 9 -
This post is an update to posts I made last May on the Gann Square of Nine.  The original post was in two parts which I have merged into this one post.  I’ve edited the original text slightly. The square of nine is often referred to in writings of and about WD Gann. Based on the books I have read, the actual square traces back to the pyramids and Gann learned of it at some point in his life. He did not invent the square nor the mathematics derived from it’s use. You can use search the internet to find out all the information you want (though not necessarily what you need). The square does make a neat a square root ... market research, surveys and trends

VerySmartInvesting: Markets slip on lackluster earnings
Markets were under water all day, but not by much. Dow finished down 38, decliners over advancers 3-2 & NAZ dropped 11. Banks were lower, taking the Financial Index down a peg. S&P 500 FINANCIALS INDEX MLPS have pretty much recovered the lost ground from last week. Today the index fell a ½ to 332, just 3 below recent highs. The REIT index fell 2 to 211 following an excellent day yesterday. Junk bond funds were mixed to higher. The VIX was up a fraction, still in the 22s & remaining near its 3 month lows. Comtex SmarTrend(R) Morning Call -- August 20, 2010
The base consolidation period expected Thursday turned into a brisk selloff when several reports amplified concerns the economic recovery is reversing. The DJIA fell 144 points to close at 10,271. The SmarTrend(R) indicators also took a hit, yet managed to weakly signal the near-term uptrend has not been exhausted entirely. As discussed yesterday in this report, the slope of the trade-term trend was immediately impacted, adversely when it was reported that first-time unemployment claims climbed to a nine-month high. Worse, the four week average of those same claims, considered the most reliable measure, climbed too. That was ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Penny stock this a good idea? - Yahoo! Answers
First, a quick background. I'm a college student and my knowledge of investing in stocks is limited to the few economics and finance courses I have taken. Anyway, I have about $7,000 just sitting in a savings account which I have been accumulating since I was a teenager (I practically save all my money). I have no need for that much liquidity (my parents pay my tuition and for my car and tell me not to get a job while in college because it'll mess with my academic performance) and wanted to see if the following is a feasible idea, or if I'm just a moron. I follow a lot of different stocks, some obscure ...
Beginner Investing: Volume, valuengine inc, henneman
If I'm not mistaken volume represents the total number of stocks that were sold and then bought during a day of trading, a sell and a buy of the same stock equals one trade transaction. If volume is 1,113,769,130, then this is the total number of selling and buying of shares of stocks during the day of trading. (Maybe a better definition for volume would be the total number of shares that exchanged hands or owenership during a single day of trading.) My question is as follows: In the unlikely event that only one share of stock was sold then bought for a single day of trading, would volume be 1?   I thank you for any ...
