Responsible Investing Initiative

responsible investing initiative special research report Photo by www.newenergyworldnetwork.com
This paper argues that corporate engagement has the potential to produce a positive change in company behaviour. It asks what leads to successful outcomes in engagement? We seek to quantify any observed positive change in corporate ESG standards that result from engagement. The paper extends the literature on stakeholder engagement. We use three case studies of engagements between institutional investors and companies in Canada over the past five years (CPPIB, SHARE and Northwest Ethical Funds). We examine the outcomes of each engagement from the perspectives of the investor. We also consider the short term impacts and long ...

who's who in microfinance: sns asset management
after the merger of SNS bank and De Hollandse Koopmansbank. According to the Responsible Investor , an online magazine, Theo Brouwers, co-director at SNS Asset Management, believes that, despite current debates over for-profit microfinance, the key to microfinance succeeding in poverty alleviation is to funnel institutional ... market research, surveys and trends
Socially Responsible Investing for Idiots
If I have to be an idiot, at the least I’m a green idiot. I believe in clean air, corporate responsibility, community activism, licorice, pizza and Thai food. And healthy living, freedom, and of course freedom raisins. Shiny happy raisins I love trees, sky, and ah, the OXYGEN! But I’m worried about the dismal state of health care, education funding, the ozone hole, the Medicare donut hole, and your little dog too! Did you know the North Pole is melting? That really scares me. Plus I need to cut down on my Chunky Monkey intake. In everything I do, in every move I make, it seems that I’m part of the worldwide web of production and ... market research, surveys and trends

The Golden State's not-so-golden goose - Business - Bloomberg ...
In March 2000, California state Treasurer Philip Angelides announced a bold new initiative. Angelides felt the Golden State could do good for both the citizens of the world and its retirees by taking state pension fund money out of two asset classes that were performing horribly at the time, tobacco stocks and emerging markets, and reinvesting in something with a social benefit — businesses and real estate in low-income neighborhoods in his home state. Angelides called the initiative the "Double Bottom Line," because it would produce both a social return and strong investment results. Eight years later, Angelides is ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Move Your Money: Bank Regulators Hold Hearings in Los Angeles
Bank regulators are holding hearings that could potentially improve the Community Reinvestment Act. The 1977 law was designed to ensure that banks remained connected to the communities they serve. Banking and finance have evolved significantly since that time, and the banking regulators have decided that it may be time to update how this law is enforced. They have been holding public hearings for about a month, and the last of these takes place on Tuesday, Aug. 17, in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles hearings are being coordinated by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, one of the four agencies doing the review, ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Investing with a conscience has the potential for long-term rewards
THE need for responsible investment has never been more relevant in the wake of the BP Deepwater disaster in the Gulf of Mexico and multinational oil companies' controversial activities in the Canadian tar sands. Responsible investment has traditionally been seen as a domain for militant activists and students whereby stocks that do not meet certain environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria – for example, tobacco producers and arms makers – are excluded. But the investment industry now talks about fiduciary responsibility rather than ethical exclusion and it is becoming more mainstream. More than 800 institutional ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Google Answers: Makers of Socially responsible investments
Hello, I'd like some help in locating a recent listing of public and private companies or their foundations, and 'pension funds' that make socially responsible investments. The list should include domestic and international companies. I am particularly interested in any socially responsible investors in the area of economic development. I do not want data on individual investors and mutual funds which make socially responsible investments. Nor do I want data on the lists of companies that qualify for 'socially responsible' investments or belong to one or the other ...
What is your opinion of the Seize BP initiative (link: http://www ...
The rationale for such a measure (maybe not as drastic, as this one) may be that only very serious consequences for BP would convince other companies to be more careful. Nothing else will do the trick. If my actions at work resulted in anything remotely close to this, they would sue my pants off. BP may be concerned to a greater degree about preserving the commercial usability of the well than about anything else. This has to be factored into any rationale driving the approach to the company and its current and past actions. Based on some media reports, BP seems to be doing what it could to prevent pictures of dead animals on ...
