One firm said visits to its public website are up 53 per cent over last year’s level, while online tour traffic is up 40 per cent. People open online brokerage accounts for lots of reasons, including lower fees, a ...

Discount brokerages attracting younger generations of investors
While new account growth at Canada’s discount brokerages has slowed considerably this year compared to rapid growth in 2009, younger investors are starting to discover the merits of self-directed online investing. Maybe they’re not as young as the fabled e-trade baby (pictured, left; 2008 YouTube video here ) but the average age of discount brokerage customers is now 45, compared to an average of 50 years in 2009, according to a June study released by J.D. Power & Associates. That age 50 average last year was clearly a baby boomer, since 50-year olds in 2009 would have been born in 1959. The boomers are generally ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Canadian Stocks: Settlement Question: Canadian stock transfer to ...
I've been living for years in Asia (have lived in Canada and other countries too). I want to bring as many of my international stock holdings as possible under a single international broker account based in UK. To transfer in my existing Canadian stocks, besides the Bloomberg code and ISIN number of the stocks in question (no problem, info available on the web - BNS.CN etc), they want to know the name of my existing broker in Canada (Scotia McLeod Direct Investment).  and the SWIFT code of the financial institution in Canada that is the custodian of the stocks.  How do I find out this information? And once I do, ...

My husband and I both have masters degrees, but we recognize that our children may not be interested or even suited to university. We want to make sure that the maximum amount of our contributions/interest/grants will be available for RRSP transfer, cash out or ...
