Commercial Real Estate Bust? Not for Everyone | Reuters
You hear a lot of talk these days about the commercial real estate bubble, and how it'll be the nextto burst. While there is some truth to this, it's not an absolute in all segments of the commercial real estate spectrum. Small-business owners can do very well in America with commercial real estate investments if they avoid certain pitfalls and learn from history. Before the economic and credit boom of the 2000s, traditional lenders for commercial real estate capped their loan amounts at 65 percent of the value of the property. If you owned a $100 million building (God bless you), you could get a loan for a max of $65 ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Small Cap Stock Investing
Small cap stock investing is, by definition, investing in a company with a capitalization less than $500 million. Research indicates that smaller companies provide a higher rate of return on investment than middle sized and larger companies defined as between $500 million and $2 billion and above $2 billion respectively. Nine of the 10 policy makers in the Federal Reserve voted to send a message Tuesday that the economic recovery is weakening and needs further stimulus to ensure that the nation recovers from the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. The Fed will continue to keep the main interest rate near zero; it will reinvest the proceeds from maturing mortgage-backed securities and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac debt into Treasuries; and will "continue to monitor" the recovery to ensure it doesn't slow down further. But one official disagreed. The economy doesn't need further stimulus, Federal Reserve Bank of ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
The Great Stock Myth
and Edward C. Prescott, economists then at Columbia University and the University of Minnesota, published a paper pointing out a strange anomaly they dubbed “the equity premium puzzle.” Since the late 19th century, stock investments in America had generated returns that were 6 percent higher than what economists call “the risk-free rate—the yield on an investment for which there is virtually no risk of losing your principal. The low-risk investments, such as short-term U.S. government debt, had yielded less than 1 percent. Those “excess” stock-market returns, which include both price ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

SEC Speech: Investing Social Security in the Stock Market (A. Levitt)
Thank you for that generous welcome. I want to express my thanks to Dean Joe Nye and Graham Allison and to everyone at the Forum for making my day here at Harvard so enjoyable. For anyone who works at the SEC, coming to Harvard is very much a pilgrimage. It is no exaggeration to say that Harvard University produced the founding fathers of the laws that regulate America's capital markets. Early in 1933, President Roosevelt asked Felix Frankfurter, then a professor at the Law School, to come to Washington and write the nation's new securities legislation. Frankfurter brought three of his Harvard associates: John Landis, ... technology research, surveys study and trend statistics
TEN COMMANDMENTS OF SUCESSFUL INVESTING
Dr. Strassburg is not a professional investor or expert in finances, and only posts these commonly found homillies for the amusement of his students. 1. Thou shall not attempt to Time the Market. Market Timing - Don't try to guess it. To the little investor, market timing is like a random walk (that is, every movement, up or down, of the market almost every minute of every day, is like a unpredictable/chance event). Most people only recognize the correct direction after it is too late to take advantage of it. One exception to this is "Bottom Feeding" ---an approach to buying stock which you want in your portfolio and ...
