The final price was settled at $13.5 billion, $6.6 billion of which will be in cash and the rest in a share exchange that will give Barclays a 19.9 percent stake in the new company - to be called Blackrock Global Investors . The deal promises to remake the Exchange Traded Fund industry as BGI's iShares unit - the world's largest issuer of ETFs - is to be embedded into what is now the world's largest asset manager. The new firm's scale - its $2.7 trillion in assets makes it larger than the Federal Reserve - could make for significant costs savings and lower expense ratios for investors. The new Blackrock is ...
However, the future distributions and the appropriate discount rate can only be assumptions. For the last 25 years, Warren Buffett has taken the value investing concept even further with a focus on "finding an outstanding company at a sensible price" rather than generic companies at a bargain price.
The Future of Investing: What Money and Markets Look Like In ...
I have to admit, I don’t think I’ve ever thought about this specific question before.  But it occurred to me when I heard an analyst from London talking about what all the new sovereign debt problems and currency tensions will mean for investors.  This too, shall pass, they say.  Then someone was tweeting around about the biggest bubbles and busts from prior centuries (you already know them – the tulip bubble , etc.).  And I thought: Is investing one big bubble? The whole idea of investing itself as we know it – putting our money into stocks, bonds, and mutual funds and ETFs? Of course – investing ... market research, surveys and trends
UCITS IV, The Future of Investing? New Fund Law Negotiations ...
Reading the program of this year´s GAIM conference (June/Monaco), UCITS III-compliance finally became a main stream trend in transforming alternatives towards a more transparent and liquid direction. Quick recap: UCITS III  funds are harmonised European retail fund vehicles which can be sold globally. They benefit from the European passport, enabling investment managers to easily market their funds within the European Union. UCITS III compliant funds totalled  €4.6trn ($6.87trn) at the end of 2008 . Forecasts see a growth between €7trn ($10.4trn) and €9trn ($13.45trn) by 2012. This legal regime is clearly a success. The Future of Investing - CBS
The harsh math of a 50 percent decline is that it requires a 100 percent gain to simply get back to even. Sure, a mere 100 percent gain seemed easy enough not so long ago. In the go-go 1990s, the S&P 500 doubled in less than three years (1995 to 1997), and then nearly did so again before the tech bubble burst in 2000. But that was then. We now live in a much stingier world. The fact is the forces that fed the fin-de-siecle bull market simply don’t exist anymore. That’s not just recessionary gloom talking. The great bull market that ended in 2007 benefited from a gale-force tailwind not likely to be seen again in our ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

The future of investing advice
(Money Magazine) -- How do you turn your savings into a comfortable pile of money you can retire on? Good advice helps. And how do you get good advice? Well, you'd better already have that comfortable pile of money. If you have under $250,000 -- or even $500,000 -- to invest, says Bing Waldert of the financial industry researcher Cerulli Associates, "you're not going to be on the radar screen of a sophisticated adviser." You could get help from a broker who is paid on commission, but you'll have to worry about whether he's pushing products that make the most money for him -- and not necessarily for you. But ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
