The Return of Value Investing

the return of value investing special research report Photo by
Value investing is probably the most publicized anomaly and is frequently touted as the best strategy for equity investing. There is a large body of evidence documenting the fact that historically, investors mistakenly overestimate the prospects of growth companies and underestimate value companies. Professors Josef Lakonishok , Robert W. Vishny , and Andrei Shleifer (of LSV Asset Management ) concluded that "value strategies yield higher returns because these strategies exploit the mistakes of the typical investor and not because these strategies are fundamentally riskier." 1 In Value and Growth Investing: Review and ...
However, the future distributions and the appropriate discount rate can only be assumptions. For the last 25 years, Warren Buffett has taken the value investing concept even further with a focus on "finding an outstanding company at a sensible price" rather than generic companies at a bargain price.
Investing: Seahawk (HAWK) Debt, Risk and Reward
It’s important to understand how the risk-reward profile of HAWK is modified as they take on debt. In their quarterly call they indicated a strong preference for adding debt and adding rigs. I’ve considered three scenarios. 1. HAWK retains their current leverage and uses asset sales to pay for operations. These asset sales will be at scrap values, around $7M per rig. 2. HAWK takes on 110M of debt and 50M of new assets. These new assets are 3M cash flow positive each quarter after interest. All of HAWKs rigs, new and old are security for this debt. It replaces the existing credit line. This amount of debt is below the scrap value ... market research, surveys and trends

Mr. Value-Investing Puts Down $22 Million at 515 Park Avenue | The ...
SAN DIEGO-BASED CHARLES BRANDES TRADES UP TO AN 11-ROOM DUPLEX Prices at 515 Park Avenue broke Manhattan condominium-sales records in 1999. In turn, those prices were topped when a dozen or so buyers flipped their apartments. But the building isn't finished. In late June, Charles Brandes, one of the most prominent preachers of value-investing and a managing partner of San Diego-based Brandes Investment Partners, bought a duplex penthouse on the building's 42nd and 43rd floors for $22 million–though the price tag was $29.5 million and the apartment had sold three years ago for only $10.5 million. The age of no more tears investing
FORTUNE -- Investors lined up around the block last week to get a piece of Johnson & Johnson's newest debt offerings, even though the yields were small enough to fit on a Q-tip. Ditto for new debt from IBM, Wal-Mart and a host of other investment-grade corporations. Call it the age of no-more-tears investing. No more tears if the stock market cracks for a day, a minute, or a year; no more tears if the economy tips into recession; no more tears for the corporations socking away cash before the next credit crunch hits; and no more tears for the asset managers defending their strategies to investors. Brian Westbrook joining 49ers, not Redskins
Free agent running back Brian Westbrook will not be joining the Washington Redskins. The San Francisco 49ers announced Monday evening that they have signed the former Philadelphia Eagle running back to a one-year contract. The deal was first reported by the Sacramento Bee. Westbrook was released by the Philadelphia Eagles in March, and, over the past couple of months, Washington was considered a likely landing spot. Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan made no secret that he coveted Westbrook, who would have given the team a solid option on third down. The team offered Westbrook a contract. Westbrook's brother, Byron, is a ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

That depends. I've read articles at it can be an average of 7-8% return. But I have also met people that have had 0% return, making just enough income to cover expenses.
