VCIC Venture Capital Investment Competition

Gone are the days when your very bright but unprepared team could arrive at VCIC and expect to make it to the next level. VCIC has become too competitive and the teams too sophisticated. Nowadays, one simple mistake can be the one that drops you from 1st to 3rd place and out of the running for the finals. It is no accident that the last five champions started by practicing at an event on their own campuses, the best way to prepare. Not unlike a sporting event, your ability to perform in the clutch will be a direct result of the time you spend training. Why spend so much time preparing for ...

Made the team: VCIC
Last week I found out that I made the University of Colorado-Boulder Venture Capital Investment Competition team. This is relatively big news and if merely volunteering at last years competition is any indication, it may be one of the best learning opportunities of my entire MBA experience. VCIC basically turns the table for the roles of students in your typical business plan competition. Rather than compete plan for plan, students don their best sport coats, striped button downs with cufflinks and dark denim jeans and play VC for a highly intense (admittedly unrealistic) 2 1/2 day period, interview entrepreneurs, evaluate a ... market research, surveys and trends
Team Wharton takes award at regional Venture Capital Investment ...
While spending sleepless nights poring over assignments, one often wonders "Will I ever apply these exotic theories I am learning in school? Who uses 5Cs, 4Ps, NPVs and other assorted acronyms that are the MBA alphabet soup?" But on April 17, 2008, that is precisely what five members of the class of WG'09 were doing at the Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) held at UNC's Kenan Flager School. The team consisting of Nana Murugesan, Karthik Raghupathy, Mayank Mehta, Anupam Rastogi and Shantanu Rastogi represented Wharton at the 11th annual VCIC. The VCIC is the nation's premiere strategy ... market research, surveys and trends

"The top three things about SDSU are affordability, quality of faculty, and convenience of classes," a typical student at this "excellent value" MBA program writes, adding, "My sister is paying a ton of money to attend UCLA, but I think I'm getting a much better experience." Indeed, the MBA program at SDSU's Graduate School of Business has a lot to recommend it beyond its appealing price tag. Students here laud the school's strengths in a wide array of disciplines, including entrepreneurship, international business, and sports business management. "Programs to assist student ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School :
What can you learn from one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time that you can use in your business on a daily basis? That's the question that former UNC basketball coach Dean Smith, UNC Kenan-Flagler professor Gerald Bell and sports writer John Kilgo address in their new book, "The Carolina Way: Leadership Lessons from a Life in Coaching" (The Penguin Press). "Coach Smith developed three keys for coaching. He focused on getting his players to play hard, play smart and play together. What business is all about is getting people to do things effectively and in orchestration with each other," said ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Given That GDP Is a "Dishonest" Way To Measure the Health of an ...
Gross Domestic Product is the total market value of all final goods and services produced in a country in a given year, equal to total consumer, investment and government spending, plus the value of exports, minus the value of imports. Leaving aside previous discussions I've triggered here about the sustainability of growth, GDP growth is generally seen as A Good Thing, right? But - GDP is a very blunt measure. For example, growth in spending on, say, education, schools, hospitals, teachers, conservation, cancer research, national parks and so on would all be seen, more or less universally, as Good Things, that would of ...
