Spencer Fry — Life Plan
I've had a life plan thought out for a while now, and with 2010 only two days away, I thought I'd let everyone know about it. This is what I plan on doing over the next fifty years of my life — basically, until I retire. I like thinking about the big picture because it gives me a horizon to drive towards even if in all probability I'll fall a goal or two short. Most startups have a short shelf life. I've been fortunate enough to be a part of two with atypical life spans. TypeFrag was founded by me in 2003, later sold in 2007, but it's still alive and kicking and doing well after over seven years. Carbonmade market research, surveys and trends
Venture Explorer: Getting a Job in Venture Capital
The second most frequently asked question to VCs is invariably "How do I get a job in Venture Capital?"   I was incredibly lucky to get into this business without looking for a VC position; I would, however, recommend a more focused job search for readers interested in venture investing.  Here's my reply to this question: Know what you want from Venture Capital : is this a long-term career move, potentially for the rest of your working life?  Or do you want to spend a few years getting an overview of the tech entrepreneurship landscape and then go of to business school or a role in a portfolio ... market research, surveys and trends

that Google's current (and expanding) dominance in web search, at least in the English-speaking world, has trained websites to do all they can to show up high on Google - to such an extent that no upstart search engine can hope to do better than Google for broad horizontal search. Stan's review of recently launched, well-funded search startup Cuil , as also the TechCrunch review , are lukewarm at best and support Stan's thesis - but this thesis assumes that Google has the best possible knowledge of a user's intentions, and since websites will compete to match Google's algorithm that expresses that ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Tesla Motors Inc. begins selling stock to the public on Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Angel investing. What exit strategies? | LinkedIn Answers | LinkedIn
I have a strategic consulting firm working with Italian SMEs. With my company, I am thinking about the opportunity of investing in more or less 10 Italian start-ups in the next year. My goal would be to take a minority stake (around 5%) in each one of the invested companies. In principle I don't have a preferred industry or sector and am also interested in companies that can become good SMEs. I mean companies that not necessarily think of becoming the next Google. Now I am reasoning about the possible exits strategies for me. Here is what I thought: - First exit: Resell the equity to the other shareholders (this is the most ...
